Maybe if 360 had it built in like the ps3 has blu ray built in it might have lasted longer, or even knocked off blu ray.

Because that was more about discussing why it should be gone because it was on the way out... this is more a news bulleting.
If xbox had had hd dvd i think they would have to have hd dvd as exclusive format cuz it was dieing anyway. blu-ray had 80% hardware sales over hd dvd and that wasn't including ps3. Bigger disk was always gonna win

I'm glad HDDVD is dead, no more wondering what movie will be in what format. I'm just mad that Universal chose HDDVD for Amercian Gangster.

All film studios have switched already as soon as Toshiba annouced.
Universal have already lost enough with not releasing transformers on blu-ray
All film titles will be released soon im guessing but you can check blu-ray website to put a date on it. Little tip though don't buy old films they look shit...
If they aint filmed with HD Camara *Last 5 Years* its going to look awful
300 is prob one of the best for picture, lovely hd camara
EDIT: Prob paramount that released transformers i forget

Sony's Blu-ray technology is emerging as the likely winner in the format battle for the next generation of DVD players after Toshiba appeared ready to ditch its HD DVD business.Such a move would help consumers know which system to invest in and would likely boost sales in Blu-ray gadgets, analysts say.Having one format should also help accelerate the shift to the new technology in the $24 billion home DVD market. But it will disappoint the 1 million people around the world estimated by Toshiba who have already bought HD DVD players.Toshiba Corp. said Monday no decision has been made but acknowledged it had started a review of its HD DVD strategy. The comments follow a flurry of weekend Japanese media reports that the company was close to pulling the plug on the business. Both DVDs can carry high-definition movies, but growing support from Hollywood and big U.S. retailers such as Wal-Mart Stores has given Blu-ray a crushing lead in the war.

Well there is gonna be some great deals out there for HD DVD titles. I wasnt gonna get one. But with the price drop of the 360 add on and the dvd's going for next to nothing i might pick one up.

It doesn't even slightly work like that. Providing it is filmed on regular old film, rather than recorded digitally, it can be blown up to virtually any resolution without a large loss of quality. Then where there is a drop in quality, the film will simply go through the digital remastering process to clean it up and improve quality. Its not going to look as good as something that was filmed last year, but it will still look better than on a regular DVD, or a DVD that has been upscaled. And just upscaling a DVD is even better than a regular DVD. I watched the original star wars on my PS3 and it looked better than on a regular DVD player.

yeah course taking straight off the film tape it can be remasterd HD a lil but never look as good as a film that was recorded with hd equipment. If your gonna take off film its only going to be 720p but dought that, it will be its own version of hd all together. All the systems can do is make up what the extra pixels are going to be and depends how well it can do that how well it looks. Kinda how like interlaced displays work.
But tbh i would just buy a dvd and stick it in ur ps3 that will do the upscaling for you... looks kinda weird but it does look better.
I havnt seen a compare so dont take my word for that but i would gather they are simular. but the remasterd hd would always look slightly better than a upscaled dvd.
Im a man that can only stand 1080 movies now 720 looks blotchy to me dont like it so maybe other people can cope with upscaled or remasterd movies...
isnt there a star wars hd version coming out ? i heard some bits of info that it might be coming at some point but didnt really trust the sources. not that i dress up like a jedi and pretend to be skywalker :P

Lucas said he wasn't gonna release one until one format was the clear winner. So this year would be nice.
