Basically, a Bluray disc is made to be played on a new WIDESCREEN tv. This is why if you have a standard tv, you will see a black bar on the top and bottom. This does not mean you are seeing a cut version. Its like taking a rectangle and trying to fit it into a square. If the rectangle must be put into a perfect square, you must shrink the rectangle. The Bluray movie is made to see the entire movie as if you were at the actual movie theatre. In effect, if you were to view the movie as full screen, you would be losing the amount of picture that was orignally there. They would be cutting the sides of the film off, so it would fill out your full screen. Hence the reason on dvd's that say full screen on the box, at the beggining of the movie it says "This film has been modified to fit this screen." or something along those lines. They had to physically remove the sides of the movie so you could have full screen.
