Microsoft greter losses than Sony
As expected, Sony's game division posted a quarterly loss of $237 million on Thursday off costly and slow PS3 sales. The news comes as rival Microsoft recently posted a $1.2 billion quarterly game loss of its on
Despite the losses, quarterly revenues were up 60% due to continued PS2 sales and a price reduction of the PSP. The company said that more than 70% of sales were on hardware and accessories.
While speaking to investors, Sony suggested it may be able to break-even on PS3 hardware within the next year due to lowered production costs of the Cell processor, the PS3 graphics card, and Blu-ray components.
Also of note, the company will now disclose hardware and software figures on units sold as opposed to their former and imprecise method of reporting units shipped. Nintendo does the same. Microsoft still reports units shipped.

You're quite right.
I had been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the PS3 since it was first announced in 2005. After repeated delays and bad news and more bad news I started to lose faith. Regardless, when Sony announced the offical launch date for Europe back in January I went straight to Play.com to secure my pre-order.
I kept a close watch on forums and gaming sites and noticed how the PS3 was coming under increasing criticism from all sides and I began to think that maybe the PS3 just wasn't worth the hefty price tag, such was my concern about it bombing in a similar way to the Dreamcast. The only thing that kept me keeping my pre-order was my gf, she was more excited than me about the prospect of being one of the first people in the country to own a PS3 and so I kept it on order, but with seeds of doubt growing in my mind.
The launch has been and gone, and finally it seems that the tables are turning in Sony's favour. Sales are picking up and the criticism is now aimed mainly at Microsoft's Xbox 360 because of it's ridiculously high failure rates. It's amazing how much difference a couple of months can make. More exclusives have been announced for the PS3 and things are looking the best they've ever been for the black beast.
I'm now have no doubts at all that Sony are turning things around, and I am also pleased that, with a bit of persuasion from my gf, I decided to keep the order on my PS3. As far as I'm concerned it beats the 360 hands down in nearly every department (with the possible exception of the online capabilities, but, even as we speak, Sony are slowly improving this as well).
I think thhe PS3 will dominate. Sales of the Wii and 360 are slowing, whereas sales for the PS3 are growing, albeit very slightly. The tide is turning, and I was there from the start.

I'm with you Scoota. I was there on launch day after waiting soooo long for Europe to get their hands on PS3. I never doubted Sony though. With their track record with past PS and the PSP I was convinced that sticking with them was the right thing to do. Anyway I had the Wii to keep me occupied until launch and I now play both equally and with the same satisfaction since day one. PS3s where always going to break even and now that blu-ray is the clear favourite a lot of people will purchase this machine for this as well as the gaming possibilities. VIVA LA PS3.

Hopefully there'll be no end
I couldn't help doubting though, there were so many nay-sayers around it was hard not to. Having said that virtually everything electronic I own is Sony branded and I have never had a single problem with anything. Also since the days of PS1 I've never been without a PlayStation of some kind. Even in the face of such opposition from the DS I will always support my trusty PSP as well
Apart from my gf, the biggest reason I decided to go for PS3 over 360 was the knowledge that if I got 360 I wouldn't be able to have Killzone 2 lol. Not even Gears of War is enough to lure me away from Killzone so to you 360!! (I couldn't afford both, so it was either PS3 or 360, and now that I have a PS3 and can now afford a 360 I just don't want one)

The big advantage with blu ray at the moment is that therre are a lot more exclusives that arent out on hd dvd, Casino Royale, Pirates Of The Carribbean and Superman Returns, big films that will help improve things

It was mainly the store that provoked anger out of me but even that has improved with recent weeks, I mean, out of the games I own I think Super Stardust HD gets the most play lol. Anyway I really don't have anything bad to say now, things are improving nicely, the Store it getting better, and with the recent firmware updates even the PS3 itself is improving. It's replaced my DVD now since I can watch DVD's upscaled. Genius.
Hey Ricky is your PS3 online? If so feel free to add me: ScootaKuH is my ID, as if you couldn't guess lmao. You've probably seen already but all of the games I own are in my sig.

When I came into this topic I expected some evidence of Microsoft loosing more money than Sony. As there was none I stamp this thread with the official seal of PhaIlz0rz
