Switch it on then switch it off holding the button in position for 10 secs until the green light flashes, That should reset it.

You could also remove the battery then pop it back in.

Is the PSP flashed with custom firmware?

Interesting Chazat. Sounds to me like you've pressed the contrast button accidentally whilst playing a game. In case you don't know which one it is it's one the right hand side of the PSP and it looks like a little square monitor. Try pressing that a couple of times to see if that works. You may have just turned the screen off by mistake.

Blody hell man there's no need to be so offensive I only suggested!!!

Er......no I didn't......

EDIT: I have done now but it was pointless anyway since I'm watching it at work and there's no sounds on our work PC's.

Well, it says...

View Full Version : PSP Won't turn on...

Last night I was playing Monster Hunter and the battery went dead, I quickly grabbed the chrager and plugged everything in, it fired back up and I continued to play monster hunter with the AC adapter in it. when I was done I shut the PSP off and let it sit and charge.

then when I was at work today listening to my PSP (MP3's) while I was cutting grass (like I've been doing for the past 3 weeks) my PSP shut off and wouldn't turn back on.. now when I flick the switch the power light turns green for a half a second and does nothing.. even with the AC adapter plugged in it doesn't even turn on.. PSP was working fine all last night and all morning today at work. I was just sitting there cutting grass and I heard the sound the PSP makes when it runs out of juice.. but my battery was reading 3 ticks when I took it off charge this morning and at that should last me the entire day at work..

I've tried inserting the battery back in at diff angles and now I am just letting the PSP sit for a few days to see if that helps, Battery out of the PSP and the AC unplugged.. I really don't get it =( anyone have any ideas or been through this before?? Let me know
thanks everyone

bricked... it seems that it is bricked but you tried it also without the MEMORY STICK? and without battery just the AC adaptor

Hi Demrok,

From reading your post, I have a similar problem.

Here are the symtoms, with battery inserted the PSP displays an amber 'power' light, upon trying to turn the psp on, the green light flickers for a fraction of a second - nothing comes on screen.

With the battery and ac adapter, exactly the same as above.

With just ac adapter connected - all seems to work ok, get amber power light when off, but upon switching the psp on, light turns to green.

Whether you have a similar problem, I am not sure, but to me it seems like there's a problem with the psp battery circuit, where its not able to power the psp, and able to charge properly.

Does anyone have circuit diagrams, or knowledge of how the psp battery/charging circuit works ?

I have just bought a brand new battery, and it does exactly the same

ok does your psp turn on at all firstly? if it just turns on the green light for a bit then shuts off, its bricked. try watching this video to if its the same thing happening with you. oh and also, demrok has aleady got an exchange for his psp, so he downt have to discuss it anymore.

Hi re4ryu,

Cheers for the link, with the AC adapter plugged in (with no battery) the PSP functions normally, no shutting off etc.., with the battery connected the PSP won't even turn on, I just get the power light turn from amber to green for fraction of a second, am hoping someone knows about the battery part of the psp.

hey vatovey,

oh i see the problem now! sorry i didnt understand before! ok well i looked around on a couple of sites and found some info.

1) try leaving the battery out for a day or two.
2)make sure the connections for the battery to the psp are not dirty. if they are, clean them up!
3) if it comes worse to worse, you might need an expert to open it up, there might be a connection fault there.

forst off try 1 and 2. if they dont work, find someone to open up the psp. im sorry, im not sure of any of the insides of a psp, but try asking somebody who knows about it on the forums, im sure theyll help!

ok then, hope this helped!

hey guys,

cheers for the posts..

ok, I to thought it may have been a faulty battery, so I bought a new longer life battery on eBay, unfortunately.. its the same symtoms with the new one.

I have taken the PSP apart, and have it apart in front of me now , although since my last post, I have noticed even with the AC adapter, the unit does switch itself off - but only at bootup, usually within' 2/3 seconds (when still on the sony boot screen), after it gets past this, seems to function ok.

The firmware is on 2.7, can I downgrade this firmware ? (sorry for the newbie question).

Okay... I'm having sort of the same problem... I've tried playing it with the battery out, and the PSP connected to the AC thingie, I've taken out the battery, but it keeps on giving me the Green/Orange light... I'm a complete
n00b, so I don't know how to take my PSP apart, and stuff... Could somebody give me some advice ASAP, cause I'm going on a trip vary soon...

Thanx, a bunch. :o

its not a brick you can only brick a psp from writing to the flash memory like (updating or x-flash something like that)dont let it scare you away though it only gets brick when i turns off while updating
My Foot
14-08-2006, 11:54 AM
I did nothing to make it a brick. I've only updated it when it gave me the option, and I've never down dated it either. I dunno what to do... Maybe it's just I need a new battery... Or get it repaired. Or maybe I need to get a new one...

Perhaps its not the battery but some part inside the PSP which uses the battery(i.e that connects battery to the mainboard or whatever) is spoilt..

was reading this post dont know if this will help. I was looking earlier and i ran across a post on another forum talking about a psp battery fuse.
Couple guys were saying that is helped them fix theirs. Again i dont know if this is your problem. If your PSP is chargin normally then im betting its not them problem, but it might be worth a PSP Batter Fuse Google to see if it is.
Could easily fix a frustrated person. Later Guys Good Luck!

Ohh yah i completely agree with the guy who said its not bricked. If you werent messing with the boot procedures , then there is a very slight chance that you bricked your PSP. ALWAYS Fixable
Peace!

I have exactley the same problem, but what was even weirder for me was that I was running devhook when this happened :|, so maybe theres some sort of new virus going around?
But instead of my power lgiht coming on for a half second, it stays on for like 20 then switches itself off, but theres no disc or screen activity
I think I remember reading somewhere that Sony wouldn't fix it? Probably because they are assuming you need kernal moder access i.e. they will say "you should always stay up to date with firmware to keep up with security blah blah"

Try these suggestion.
Try a hard-boot (Hold the Power button up for 10 Sec.)
Try to take out the battery and let it out for let me say 5 Min.
Connect the AC WITHOUTH the battery and try to power on.

If this does NOT help then either your psp is bricked ore you should send it back to Sony sorry.

tried downgrading from 2.71 to 1.5.and its bricked .and nothin worked .
is there some one who is an expert.Wot i understand is that a mod chip is the only option.
But,the modchip connections required asre just the usb and some wires.if some could make a UP (say) emulator .connect to psp with some wires and usb .it might revive the dead psp again .

It's the battery that's jacking up...you can't brick a PSP by it just shutting off. Someone explained it already but bricks only happen when you mess with flashing.

Anyways. A similar situation happened with my laptop. With battery and AC in, it wouldn't turn on. I took the battery out and just turned it on with the AC and worked fine. Left the battery out for a while, put it back in, and now it's working again.

So final answer...leave your battery out for a while.

I have 10 boards with this same problem, most of them for what looked liked instances where psp's were dropped (may well be the same as failed upgrades).

I am going to see if they are restorable by reflashing with a UP chip. but without trying this, I can say from experience thus far that this symptom of solid green light for 20 seconds or more then turning off or staying on until it's turned off is terminal.

but the thing is i never dropped my psp and i never had a failed downgrade coz my psp is a 1.5 fw. i'm using the dual boot 1.5/2.71 devhook. i was just playing some games when i turn off my psp. after a while i decided to play again and voila!!!!! it ain't turning on!!! it's already 1 week since this psp last turned on. until now no sign of wanting to go back to life.

Ok guys, this problem maybe be a lot easier to solve than everyone seems to think. One of my PSPs is running 2.82 with no mods, or upgrades/downgrades etc.

I had a problem with my backlight not working, due to the onboard fuse being blown. After I'd worked on it, and tried booting it up, I got the green light flash on for a second then straight back off. I tried all the take the battery out, put the AC in etc, but nothing worked. I eventually took the PSP apart again, and couldn't find any probs, apart from my antenna ariel was slightly frayed and there was a little bare wire showing. I removed the antenna wire, rechecked everything and made sure all the components were seated properly and secured as they should be. I then put the unit back together and its worked fine since.

I've come to the conclusion that, the problem was caused either by the dodgy antenna wire shorting on something (although I'm not an expert, so please correct me if this is wrong), or the components were simply not assembled properly, and maybe something wasn't touching or connecting as it should be. Either way, my PSP WAS NOT bricked!
