Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!
But seriously, I remember you talked about wanting a DX10 capable PC a while back but were put off by the cost. Well things have developed since then so I thought I'd give you a heads up.
CPU:
I got a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 for christmas. Bloody brilliant and shouldn't need to be upgraded for 3-4 years. Its only about £150 but if you shop around you can probably find it cheaper. It's got 4 64bit cores, and runs at 2.4GHz out of the box, though I hear it can easily be overclocked to 3GHz with the stock cooling and to around 3.5GHz with aftermarket air cooling (and around 4GHz with water).
There are also the Dual cores like the E6600 and E2160 which are still really good, very overclockable and go for as little as £50.
GFX:
Bloody graphics. Too bloody expensive *grumble grumble*. Anyway, ATI just released a decent mid-market series: the HD 3850 and the HD3870. They wont max out crysis but you can expect a decent framerate on mid->very high settings and a sensible resolution. They go for around £150.
Then theres the GeForce 8 series. The 8800GT is comparible to the 3850 and 3870 but costs more. The 8800GTS is a decent card, goes for around £200-250 and should let you max crysis so long as you don't go overboard with the resolution and the Anti-aliasing. The 8800GTX 768MB version goes for £250-280 and will max crysis without too much fuss, again, providing you don't use a stupid high resolution (1600x1200 4:3 or 1680x1050 16:10 maximum, you don't need more so don't bother). Theres the 8800 Ultra which is like £350-400, will run crysis fine. They're also rumoured to be releasing the 9800 GX2 in late feb early march. This is an overclocked 8800 Ultra, but 2 of them on one card in SLi. Its rumoured to have a 30% performance increase over the Ultra, and will probably retail for £400-450.
RAM:
2GBs of DDR2 667MHz sells for around £25. Theres no reason not to get 4GB at that price.
Right, there you go.
