Starting to see a lot of worrying reports surfacing that some users are experiencing freezing/locking of their PS3's when running GTA4.

UPDATE: It looks like there are multiple assumptions. First off it is not only the Collectors Edition, so far though I have only heard of 60 GB version freezing. Although thing which is the latest I have heard from Tech Support is that it may be a Shotty Batch of games that have been sent to GameStop. UPDATE2: It is not just 60 GB Launch PS3s, I know 60 GB PS3s that are not launch and launch 20GB PS3s having the problem. I have just attempted a quick format (full one takes 3 1/2 hours so not trying) and installing GTA IV Again will update once I know something!

UPDATE3: So the Quick Format did not work, and it is not only the PS3 having these problems it appears. I am also finding reports of Xbox 360's having Lock up issues. I do not know if it is wide spread or even related to the Playstation Issues. I am currently re-installing GTA IV for the 5th time this time after a Quick System Restore in which it erased the Hard Drive and reset all the default system settings. As soon as I know more I will update.

UPDATE4: Well the quick system restore didn't do anything. I had all the extras disabled and didn't help one bit. All I can suggest currently is to call where you got your game first thing when they open and tell them to give you another copy to try. Good Luck to all!

With such a huge launch and title, the sheer volume of copies sold some are always going to be faulty - im just hoping it's not too widespread.

Anyone here been experiencing any issues?

mine froze once during the sixaxis turtorial during the helicopter section. i have a 60 gb launch ps3 but the game had been running for a good 8 hours. the game is amazing and this is hardly a big issue, it happens to most games

My PS3 60 gd froze once and started right back while I was driving a car but thats it nothing big.

found a solution to the freezing problem. i found it on game trailer and a few other sites. if you don't want it to freeze on you, dont sign into psn network before you play. it worked for me today. but thats the only way i found that actually works

Uh oh....its froze on me 3 times....not good.

yikes, *touch wood* i haven't had any freezing problems yet. Like mentioned above a few tips seem to be:

1. dont log online
2. disable rumble feedback

mine froze today about 10 times in the begginnig when it says loading after starting the game and once when i was running from da police!

Well, I have something happening that sounds different than these issues. I have the 80gig PS3 and I was at the Gamestop midnight sale. Got home, loaded it up and it worked great. I have been playing it a lot since I got it. Today when I go to play, my game would not load. The game started and it went through the still images like it does as it is loading and then when the screen goes black and the name of the mission is in the lower right hand corner of the screen, it won't go any further. It cycles through the music and never actually loads the game. I tried throwing away all game data and reloading the 3+ gigs onto my hard drive and again, wouldn't go past the black screen with LOADING RUSSIAN REVOLUTION" in the lower right hand corner of the screen. It isn't frozen cause the letters are still flashing. I then tried dumping the saved games I had (I lost everything) AND reinstalling the game on the hard drive again. Now, once the game is loaded, I once again have the black screen with the STARTING NEW GAME... flashing. It's been doing this for about 25 minutes.

Has anyone seen this??? All I am hearing about is freezing while playing...not this loading issue. And if this is a problem, why did it work for me for 5 days and then start acting up?? Any help is greatly appreciated. It sucks bad enough that I have to start over, I'd hate to not be able to play this game. Oh...and I checked my other PS3 games. They all are working fine. Uncharted, DMC4, COD4.
