Dave, I wouldn't be able to tell you which is better, but i can say that Lcd has been known to hold" image retention". Image retention is where the playstation menu or the playstation game menu ,or anything that is permanantly fixed on your screen while you are playing your game( like a life bar for eg) comes through when you watch a movie or play a different game. I know this happens with lcd projectors . Which is to say i have experienced problems with myself. I now have a dlp, so i dont get this problem anymore. If you do look at lcd's, make sure you talk to someone who knows these tvs and ask about image retention and if the sales guy hasn't heard of it, be weary. Trust me as i know from past experience and have been there. Having said that, it could be a thing of the past and things might have improved as i am sure that there are people out there not suffering from this at all. As for plasmas, i have never owned one. Good thing to do is to register at the AVS forum and ask on there in the lcd and plasma section. Then report back with your answer so we can all learn from it also. I hope this helps. Regards Grassy........

I didn't think image retention still existed. Last time I had a problem with it was back in around 1995 when crappy CRT pc monitors would get "screen burn" if you left them displaying the same thing for too long.

Its is NOT LCD that troubles with screen retention or "burning screen effect", it is PLASMA that does.

I posted this in another thread, it may help:
The first LCD TVs had that refresh problem that causes some kind of "ghost" when there is fast movements, like a soccer game, etc. Right now almost every new LCD on the market have very quick refreshing rates, so you will not have that problem.
On the other side, plasma TV can have "burned" pixels when the display an image in the same spot for long periods of time, like vital signs or car panel instruments (that they are always in the same spot of the screen).
This are some of the advantages of a LCD over a plasma: (im not saying they are better, but pretty much recommended for videogames)
ADVANTAGES:
- Longer overall life time
- They wont have "burned" pixels on the screen
- Lighter and easier to install
- They consume less energy
- They display brighter colors
DISADVANTAGES:
- More expensive above the 32" mark
- The refresh rate is slower than plasma
- They dont display blacks as plasma does (they display a darker scale of grays)
- They make regular non HD TV look like crap
I did a lot of research before purchasing my LCD, it cost me the same as a 40" plasma, but since i have a small room and liked more the image on the LCD i went for it. now a own a Sony Bravia 32" 1080i LCD KDL32S2010 and im pretty much pleased with my purchase. for my living room im going for a bigger 50" plasma.
U all must forgive me but english is not my native language, i hope u all get the point i tried to explain.

Some food for thought though.
New Plasmas are rated at 60,000 hours and have about the same life as CRT TVs.
New plasmas are much less prone to image retention or image burn in.
Large plasma HDTV’s in most cases are actually cheaper than their LCD counter parts. (42 inch plus)
With plasma you have true black. With LCD the backlight never really turns off and black always has some "light" to it.
LCD's have what is called ghosting. Plasmas don't really have this but some of them will have pixel distortion with fast motion on the screen.
Another argument is that LCD TV’s provide more VSL than Plasma. It is possible to get a 42 inch LCD with 1080i, however most people find it impossible to tell the difference on HDTV's 42 inches and smaller.
If you use you PS3 as a computer just turn the screensaver on a sort delay if you’re that concerned. Many Plasma TVs also have timers for auto turnoff built in.
I just wanted to show both sides of the argument, I'm leaning towards Plasma myself, and not to say I wouldn't buy an LCD but the price would have to be right.

They are both good, it is just that LCD are better for gamming. Besides that it all depends on screen size.
First you have to consider the distance from where you'll watch it. for a small room (like mine 3mts x 2 mts) 32" is ok, but for a living room you can go > 40" .
For 40" or bigger go plasma.
