The difference between 1080i and 1080p

720p/1080i/1080p
The numbers refer to the amount of horizontal lines in the picture; the more lines the higher the detail. As for the letter 'p' means a progressivly scanned image, wich is more stable and smooth because each frame is drawn in its entirely, whearas 'i' is an interlaced signal that rapidly switches between the odd and even horizontal lines of an image, giving the impression of a full frame. Rougly speaking, 720p is best for fast motion but 1080i suits more static, detailed visuals with 1080p therefore beeing the best of both worlds and the overall winner.

Iv never played Reisdent evil games. Is resisdent the game where the computer tries to kill the people trapped inside some building? Iv never played any of the final fantasy games either? they sound boring.

my tv only goes up to 1080i
so when i but a game that says 1080p that runs over 30fps is it better to then play it on 720p or just leave it on 1080i
and will my ps3 automatically adjust to whats best?

A game wont be just 1080p
it will be from SD through to HD 1080P, so will include 720p and 1080i
