which is the determing factor....contrast ratio or 1080p?
i was in the store the other day and i came across to very enticing tv's....one was the aqous 42'' 1080p which looked pretty good but only had a contrast ratio of 1400:1...while the other tv...i think it was a samsung had 1080i but a contrast ratio of 10000:1 and thus looked brighter...not to mention about 400 dollars cheaper...so my question is which is better?

my samsung is 1080p and 10000:1 contrast ratio also nd it looks incredible, so get the 1080p

Honestly you are going to notice c/r before you will notice 1080p. If you don't buy Insignia, Olevia, Vizio, Westinghouse or any of those other cheap brands you won't notice a big difference in c/r. Samsung of course will always have the brightest picture. Check out Phillips and LG, along with Samsung those are my top 3 manufacturers.

contrast ratios dont give that good an indication to how good a tv really is. jus look for 1080p and thats gd enough

Sony is very good, but is too expensive.
1080p is not the "determining factor." Personally, I would rather have a 40" 720p Samsung than a 1080p 42" Westinghouse.

i didnt just mean 1080p as the determin factor ment like 1080p, 1080i and the 720's are more determining than the contrast ratios

I don't know if there is a definite answer as to which is better. The Aquos has a higher c/r than 1400:1. That is the c/r of a low-end 32" LCD.

Contrast ratios can be deceiving, In the end I would just go off which one you think has the better picture for the price. You have to be happy about it in the end...
