My CD/DVD player has broken, so I'm looking for a replacement. I want something of decent quality that'll last, rather than something I'll ditch after a year or two, so that led me to look at Blu-Ray.

I've read that the PS3 is one of the best Blu-Ray players, and obviously I know it's great for gaming, but how does it perform as a CD/DVD player?

How does the DVD upscaling compare to a dedicated DVD player? I have a 1080i LCD TV.
How long does it take to turn on, if I want to play a CD?
Does it have a standard headphone socket? (My friend's XBOX doesn't.)
Is it quiet in operation? My laptop's DVD drive makes a lot of noise when I play a CD.
Would I have to turn on the TV just to play a CD, or could I just put it in and press a button?
My TV has one HDMI socket, already in use, so I'm thinking I would need an HDMI switch box. Is anyone aware of any problems with that solution?

One more thing - is it region-free for DVDs? And for Blu-Ray too, if that nonsense still applies.

That's a lot of concerns you have for a CD/DVD Player

It does everything most do, except for back flips

upscalling doesnt do squat even on dvd upscalling players ...get bluray when there cheaper.

headphone socket...hmm dunno stick it in ur tv

noise usual if theres music on shouldnt matter

no u can get stuff to make sure u get like 10 hdmi sockets if u want, maplins etc in england u can get them from
