PS3 Known incompatabilities?
Please post any known PS3 "issues" or bugs. I have trouble finding any type of list on the internet. I would like to know which HDTV's the PS3 WON'T work with, as well as ps1 & ps2 games that are known to be incompatible with PS3.
I'm going to wait to get the HD PS3 until Sony comes clean with a list, and maybe adds an HD cable to the $600 unit.
I guess the cheaper 20gb PS3 has no HD out, is that correct?
On a side note;
I'm thinking sit and wait and enjoy my PS2 or just get the xbox for the online gaming. I just got the component video cable for the ps2 on my HD Aquos LCD and it looks damn spiffy to me. No need for a "media center computer" here. Just want an HD gaming system. Unfortunately, after being a loyal sony player for over a decade, the xbox looks like the better deal for HD and Online playability, and I'm starting to like their titles more and more, which is what sold me on ps1 and ps2. I don't see any games that impress me on the PS3, at least, not at that price. I can play online on my PC for free..... and for half price have an xbox hd system and at least 6-8 cool games, espcially halo,1,2,3 etc....
Anyone else just biding their time? Anyone else disapointed in the next gen sony? I guess I'll be a traitor for buying microsoft, but you gotta go where the games are...

Hi dantheman, I am not sure which PS1 and PS2 games the PS3 won't play, the PS1 and PS2 games I have all work on the PS3. The 20 GB model DO come with HMDI output. Also, if you don't want to use HDMI for HD, you can always use the PS3 component cable for HD output (Although it is not going to do 1080p). As far as the HD displays go, if you wish to use the HDMI port on the PS3, I think as long as the HDMI / DVI ports on the display is AACS / HDCP compliant, then you should be fine. If you are using component cable as a output source, then the display have to have a YPbPr input that is also AACS compliant. I think most of the HDTVs are HDCP compliant, so your Aquos will work with the PS3.
I agree with you on the games, there are not many great games out for the PS3, at least no definitive "console selling" game. However, March is a big month for PS3, as it is getting tons of excellent titles (Motorstorm, Def Jam: Icons, Oblivion, FEAR, Enchanted Arms etc.). In my opinion, if you are not sure which system to go with at this point, I think you should wait it out a bit longer instead of jumping into buying a 360 and possibly regreting your decision in the future.

hondan this still doesnt make any sense, there are no HD component cables for the ps3...the AV multi out is for standard definition (people who dont have an HDTV) so when you say you can use the ps3 component cable for HD output it doesnt make any sense

dantheman i think you should wait it out a bit longer or check out some games sites you know of, my fav is gamespy.com, but like hondan said march is going to be a good month but if you still don't dig the game selection yet then go with the "games"....but i say wait cause it is still a new system

Yeah, hondan you're right on, just wait a while and see. Sony has the long-term machine at the moment. I don't think microsoft will just sit still for the next 5 years though, maybe their next gen will be even more impressive huh?
I can always get GTA4 on x-box hd anyway, so I'm not heart-broken if the PS3 never comes down in price... that would have been the console selling title, if they could have gotten an exclusive release with rockstar. I don't like the tactics though. "only on x-box or whatever" and then 6 months later it's on all the systems anyway. $ talks.

Hi Jeter and Crispino, the cable that came with the PS3 is a composite cable, the video outputs from the yellow cable and red and white wires handle audio. The YPbPr component cables consist of 5 wires, 2 red, 1 white, 1 green and 1 blue. This cable is similar to the cable that came with the PS3, as they both have the AV multi out connector on one end, but the component cable have 5 connectors on the other end and can further separate the video signal thus enable a higher bandwidth and the ability to produce higher quality images. The component cable is sold separately from the PS3 system.
So in summary:
Composite = video carried from one cable (the yellow cable), came bundled with the PS3.
YPbPr Component = video carried from 3 cables (red, green and blue), must be purchased separately.
Both composite and component have a separate set of red and white cables that carry the left and right audio channels.
Hope this helps...

DAntheman, im almost sure the PS3 runs on ur Aquos LCD TV, but why not try with a friend's PS3 and kill all ur doubts? I would lend you mine if we lived close, but then again find a friend with a PS3.
