Rockstar and British GTA fans breathed a sigh of relief earlier today as the British Board of Film Classification cleared the Grand Theft Auto IV title for release.

The game has been granted an 18 certificate by the BBFC who accidentally gave away a sneak peek at some of the more risque features players can expect to find in the Rockstar title.

The BBFC posted information on their official website which explained the game’s general theme aswell as revealing some of the more in-depth features which will be come apparent once GTA 4 goes live.

However, it transpired that the information posted was infact in breach of the organisations policy and was promptly removed. The BBFC explained that the takedown was caused by a policy of not publishing the Extended Classification Information (ECI) for any game title that isn’t within 10 days of it’s release date. It was mentioned that the ECI will go back up on the BBFC website on April 19, in line with GTA 4’s April 29 release date.

Here’s an excerpt of the deleted publishing information put up by the BBFC:

Sex references also occur during cut scenes, including references to strong sexual behaviour. During gameplay the character can pick up prostitutes and pay for three different levels of service. What follows is an un-detailed portrayal of masturbation, fellatio and intercourse. The character can also visit lap dancing clubs and request a private dance. While the game contains sexualised dancing and the portrayal of sex, there is no sexualised nudity.
