BioShock 2 Launch Trailer, Pre-Order Exclusives and Midnight Openings Round-Up
Maura S

There’s nothing quite like the excitement of the imminent arrival of a blockbuster game that everyone’s been waiting for, and BioShock 2 certainly falls into that category. February 9th is the worldwide release date for the sequel to 2K Games’ awesome BioShock, and as the great day is now less than a week away, it seems like the perfect time to round up all the pre-order offers and launch-day special events, as well as whet our appetites with some screenshots and the stunning official launch trailer, which debuted on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on February 2nd in the US.

As far as late-night openings go, 2K Games has announced on their Cult of Rapture blog that in North America, some Best Buy stores will be opening at midnight. You can see the full list of stores on the blog by clicking on the link. If you simply can’t wait until then and you happen to live in the New York City area, get yourself down to the Best Buy in NoHo (on Broadway between Houston and Bleeker) at 10pm on Thursday February 4th, where you’ll be able to play the game. Some GameStop stores in the US will also be holding midnight openings, so check with your local store to find out if they’ll be participating.

You’ve also still got time to score some pre-order bonuses of course. If you pre-order from Amazon.com, you’ll get a Subject Delta suit for your PlayStation Network Home Avatar, plus a $10 credit off a future game purchase. If you pre-order at GameStop, you’ll get codes to unlock two bonus multiplayer characters – Blanche the actress and Zigo the fisherman. These two characters are also available to gamers in the UK who pre-order the game at Game stores.

And finally, don’t forget there will also be a BioShock 2 Special Edition available, including three posters featuring vintage ads from Rapture, a vinyl LP featuring the orchestral score from the original BioShock, a CD of the BioShock 2 orchestral score, a 164-page artbook. And a copy of the game!

Ah, Rapture, how we’ve missed you, you scary undersea world, you.
