It is a cheap Blu-Ray player, except you have games on it that look fantastic, play fantastic, has free online play (cept for your ISP provider) and a whole range of features. I just wish that it was a little less expensive but i would pay that price. What? you buy Ipods for $400AD these days

The price is NOT justified in any way. Half the cost of the PS3 is a direct result of including a blu-ray player. If there were some advantage to owning one, it would be a bargain -- but there is NO advantage.
1) Games won't utilize anywhere near the maximum storage capacity of the discs -- the development costs are just too high, and most games won't need all of it to produce excellent graphics. PC games, who's graphics resemble the PS3's, are the best example of this: their size doesn't surpass 10 gigs and they look amazing, but blu-ray holds 50 gigs. From the gaming perspective, you end up paying more for a lot of wasted space that you get nothing from.
2) There's a very small HDTV market; the technology is new and expensive, so that blu-ray player will be gathering dust for a long time.
3) A U.K. company has developed a triple layer disc, which can hold all three formats (HD-DVD, blu-ray and DVD). As such, all you have to do is buy the cheapest player available when you decide to make the leap to HDTV. Plus, NEC has already developed a controller that allows both formats to play on one machine.
The bottom line is that Sony is forcing us to buy blu-ray so we can help spread the technology FOR them -- I'm willing to pay for new GAMING technology, but Sony wants US to finance their attempt to grab the entire HD market.
That's where the high price tag is really coming from. Would you buy something, at an inflated price, when half the price is a direct result of an armpit comb (i.e. the blu-ray player in this case) that is bundled with it? It's the same thing; an individual armpit comb might be hyper expensive so, omitting the fact that it's practically useless (for the reasons I listed up top), the seller is trying to convince you you're getting a deal. Plus, if you buy an armpit comb, maybe others will try to emulate you and buy one too; this last isn't the best analogy, but you get my drift. In accepting blu-ray in the PS3, and the high cost that comes with that acceptance, we help Sony spread it's technology. If they get the market, it's great for them; if they don't, well we payed for the attempt so who cares?
It's a sucker's deal; so there ain't gonna BE a deal, Sony.

So you're saying there that 'a lot' of games when compressed reach 50 gigabytes of space? I must have missed these games, care to name any? I wonder what the largest game ever made for the PC was...

I am looking for the link but can't find it anymore. They fill up a 25GB BR, 50's only just came out with the PS3. RFOM Fills the 25GB when compressed. What is the largest PC game? But why are we discussing PC. I though this was a PS3 site that deals with CONSOLES!!

Let's see hear. If I wanted graphics like that I would play my playstion 1. If I wanted something as stupid as a Blu-ray compatible, HD enabled, a value of a cheap DELL computer and a price tag of one. Well hell I'd get a SHITY DELL computer. It's not worth it and never will be. And to all of those idiots that camped out for one. What The F***!! Haven't you ever heard manufacture bugs. Honestly if you had a brain in your head you would get an XBOX360.....And that's coming from a guy who tries to find every possible way to sue Microsoft. DON"T BUY A PS3. And you intend to look at ALL of the specs and wait for the price to go down BEFORE you spend that money on a PLASTIC BOX FULL OF WORTHLESS PARTS!!

Can't sell a PS3
I have small kids so I waited in line in a snow storm for 3 hours for a Wii at my local GameStop. I was 4th in line and they had 3 so I was the first to opt for a PS3. I thought that if I got a Wii sometime I could sell the PS3 on ebay. I ended up getting a Wii the next week, fortunately. It was a great purchase but this is not the appropriate forum... I posted my PS3 on Ebay and ended up having a Nigerian try to scam me and then I couldn't sell it for more than I paid for it. I ended up taking it back to GameStop. I'm wondering if Sony Dropped the Ball on this one. It seems like they've dropped to 3rd place.
