So I've attempted to put aside me hatred of the PS3 and have decided that free online does sound like fun and that home could be an interesting addition to online play. But I still don't want to pay £425 for one. I couldn't actually afford one at the moment anyway and would have to wait till april. But I've considered importing from Japan which will get me a 20GB PS3 (I don't want 60GB) anyway for roughly £250 from a reputable dealer. I wont be able to access PSN till around June anyway as my faggot University blocks consoles on their network.

As I'm not that interested in blu-ray movies (I don't see any great HD anime titles and I hve a 360 to play dvds), the region compatibility isn't much of a factor. But it is a factor. At the moment BR games are region free, but will they stay that way. It would suck to have to import all my games.

1) What are the chances of BR games become region encoded?
2) If I get a Japanese PS3 will I still be able to connect to the European PSN?

Slim to none. Sony has committed to region-free games and two years later, the PSP games are still region-free. Sony has united Japan and North America as Region 1 for BD movies so SCEE is the odd one out and they've been fighting against Europeans from importing because games are region-free.

Yes, PSN is global and isn't localized. You should be able to setup a Euro account once the PS3 launches over there.
