UK: GAME opting for an AM launch
UK retailer GAME have just announced they will be having a PS3 launch morning due to concerns about customer safety.
GAME will now be opening their doors to their pre-order customers at 7AM on Friday morning. This comes about following London’s Metropolitan Police concerns over London retailers hosting midnight launches.

GAME will be inviting the first 150 gamers who have pre-ordered the PlayStation3 to the store at 7am on Friday 23rd March. Customers will be greeted with bacon butties, pastries and coffee and will have the chance to claim Sony goodie bags whilst awaiting their turn to collect their PS3™. After 9am the store will be open for all GAME customers.

Game have just called me and said my unit will be in store for pick up on Friday! They also said that they are opening at midnight on Thursday 22nd!! Too risky tho for my liking, like you said, dirty scum bag thieve's about.

Hmm..
I am starting to get worried!
Like I have said...I am 188th on the preorder que.
BUT looking at this article "first 150 preorders" must mean that GAME store has a lot more in stock.
Hopefully, my GAME down here in ye 'old Plymouth will have a lot in stock, too! [seeins as I cant make it in the morning, only afternoon...damn school!]

i dont think anybody will be bothered to rob a PS3 in total day light in the middle of town where there are lots of people....lol.....my mom is going all by her self....what a brave lady =P
or i minght meet her at around 2ish but i am afraid that all the PS3's have been sold =/

I don't think you'll have a great deal to worry about. There isn't the hysteria that the US had, with muggings and even people being shot. It's slightly more low key here |

Sad thing is, these days you just look at someone, and they wont think twice about blading you! And as for the daylight thing, that doesn't seem to make a blind bit of diff these days, coz they know that nobody will help you, everyone just stands about and looks at the show! Just be careful m8, you cant be too cautious. Im getting a lift to the store and back.

Just the other day outside Plymouth University (in broad daylight) a girl was slashed across the face by a man.
He was seen running through town after the attack. People really dont care when they attack you...
Anyways...I just checked my voicemail on my house phone and, lo and behold, it was GAME! Midnight launch, store opening one hour earlier in the morning (7) and closing one hour later (6)...or maybe its half an hour later, I think town usually shuts at half 5.
Anyway..if the store is opening till 6 for PS3 laucnh...then I now have HIGH hopes that I will get my PS3 on day 1!
And rubber duckie...I will be careful

You do realize how big and heavy the PS3 box is, right? If you do encounter any problems, you're screwed since you don't want to risk damaging your PS3. | |
