It's not really a gimmick, but the PS3 isn't really going to find the cure to cancer either. F@H allows researchers to understand the process of protein folding because diseases such as Alzheimer's or certain types of cancer is a result of protein misfolding.

i was just wondering, i read somewhere that this folding@home software uses up unused cpu power to do this protein thing. well my question is, can i have this program running while playing games?

Im not sure about joining at Folding@home
I don't think that they say the whole truth about CPU power.

No, I don't think it's possible to play games whilst folding.

I think the term 'unused' means when the PS3 is not being used for anything else at all, in other words, when it's idle.

ive just got a ps3 i downloaded update from pc to usb it works fine.i have aproblem i wondered if anyone could help i am olay a ps2 game pro evo 6 there is an update for it does anyone now how to get and install this thanks

Thats great quinnster your exactly what im looking for mate, right i believe your now added as my buddy online which is the start lol. ill start a website for all that enter and as quinny says something on here would be great to. this is guna be a great ps3 clan when home comes out we shall all have a good time me and quinny will be the main guys to sort the clan out for now need a right hand man lol. so all you guys leave me a message with clan name ideas and hopefully we can sort the clan out in a few weeks. me and quin will decide if your right for the clan as we want some dedicated players not just your weekend player lol (not that there bad) lets start one of the best ps3 clans around!

sony would do things like that but this project has been going for years. my pc has been doing it for long time. companys get alot of publicity out of it because they get mentioned when a cure is found which some have.

the project dosnt make a cure like people have said it just enables them to see how not to do it and how it could be done... then they try it then once in a while they get something right and it leads to better things

ps3 is dominating it at the moment. PC widows has been doing it since 2000 and ps3 is catching up like crazy its scary how fast it is just for say 8 hours a day its crazy speeds

just add another note about the guy that said about his name didnt appear on the list, after you completed a WU (Work Unit) it will get uploaded within 3 hours, 3 hours is the upload timescales so if you check back in 3 hours your name WILL be there
