I got my PS3 over christmas from america with 3 games, when I baught the console I was told that all the games would be 'region free'

Now that the PS3 has been released in the uk I have baught myself a new game (Marvel Ultimate Alliance) however when I try to play the game it comes up with a message :

"The system software of your PS3 is version 1.10. to continue you must update to version 1.50. do you want to update now ?"

I click yes and it comes up with "No applicable software updates were found."

I presume that when clicking yes the console is using the internet to search for updates, however being a US PS3 the ethernet cable is not the same and I cannot connect to the internet.

If I could connect to the internet would the game work or is does the first message simply mean that the game is not compatible with my PS3 ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

down load the update from the us sever to your computer and place it on a usb drive or burn to cd

I have now succesfully updated my PS3 but now when I try and load the game it says:

"This game is not supported"

Anybody else had this message come up before, or is it because its a UK game on a US Playstation ?

ok crap, mine is Japanese model,
i dont have any games yet but i wonder if any games from the uk will work on mine
