From what I have read in the past, I would think that the Virgin cable ISP are using MAC address filtering. In this case, you have two options. First, the simple solution is to go and buy a router, clone your computer's MAC address on it, and route your connection to the PS3 that way. Second, the harder solution will be to route your connection through your computer, this option requires you to have two ethernet cards in your computer. You will have to hook up your computer to your cable modem as you would normally do, then you must enable ICS (Internet connection sharing) service on your computer, and share the modem connection with the second ethernet card. Finally, you have to use a CAT5 crossover or CAT6 crossover cable to connect your computer to the PS3 from the second ethernet adapter.
