Hey, just got my PS3!
Was just wandering if the PS3 is 'safe' to watch Bluray disks. As you guys probably know that ps2 wasn't well known for its dvd playback.
so yeh, hope I can get some confirmation before I starting watching.

Has anyone heard about an upgrade for the PS3 which provides standard DVD upconversion? I understood this was in the works (months ago). I would hate to have to buy a Blue Ray DVD player just for that.......if that's the case then I would choose to buy the HD DVD for much less $$$$$$$

i've only used mine with the free bond film they sent me with the ps3, and it was bob on, not bought any more for it tho cuz im skint and wud rather spend cash on games

it already came out.....as long as your ps3 is updated then it should have the DVD upscaler.....makes your old DVDs look a lot better....

you have to turn the dvd upscaler on in the settings, its been there for ages, but u have to turn it on in one of the settings cant remember which one, there is also a setting for upscaling ps2 and the ps1 classic games as well, u must do it!

I seriously need to get an HD TV to take advantage of this. Didn't think the PS2 DVD player was that bad until I saw the picture from a £40 Philips Player

Oh well though, looks like the PS3 holds it's own in terms of BD play back. You can see the difference with the DVDs as well, which you would expect.

I haven't tried any DVD's on my PS3 yet. Just got a new TV about 2 weeks ago, so I will see what they look like upscaled
