I want my PS3 in Surround Sound
Hey guys,
sorry if this doesn't belong in this part of the forum.
but I am trying to use my Logitech z5300 speakers with my PS3. But I'm not sure how. Do I connect it to my PS3? or my TV? I have a samsung 26" HDTV.
any help would be appreciated
thanks

It depends, if your speakers have a jack (headphones) then plug it to your TV headphones exit, if its a RCA (the red and white plugs) then plug it to the audio out of your TV

yeh, that's the thing though
my speakers have headphone jacks, but its 5.1 speakers, made for 5.1 channel sound cards, so there's actually 3 jacks.
I went to an electrical shop, and they sed they didn't know if there was a convertor that could do what I needed.
is it just that my speakers are made ONLY for pc's? coz even on the box, it says its for PC's and consoles
thanks all the same for the reply

Oh i see! then you need a encoder/decoder for the speakers to break sound from 2.0 (plain stereo) to 5.1, just like a home theater since your pc speakers use the soundcard on your pc to do that work.

lol, sorry, I'm not very familiar with this, so, do I buy this encoder/ decoder?
I just go to an electrical store and ask them for a encoder or decoder for my speakers?

I have a 32" Sony Bravia kdl32xbr1 w/ hdmi, but can't get the hdmi to work. Sony said its the tv, that it can only read upto 1080i and ps3 supports 1080p, but i thought that hdmi cable will read or support 480,720 or 1080i? other than just hooking up the hdmi cable and choosing to utilize it under the settings am I missing something??? the hdmi has not worked on my hd digital cable box either?

Sorry, is not that simple.
What i meant is that TVs and normal stereos use 2.0 channels (2 speakers) for audio (left and right, or red and white). 5.1 means 5 channels or speakers and a subwoffer (Front Left, center, front right, surround left, surround right and subwoffer). Your PS3 sends out a 5.1 enconded (mixed) signal and a system like a home theater decodes this mixed signal into 5.1 different signals, one for each channel. If you dont decode this signal you will still be getting a 2.0. Right now you only have the speakers but no decoder to split the ps3 signal, so what youneed is that. By encoder/decoder i mean a home theather system or such other device. I hope i made it clearer for you

Thats plain BS my friend, i have a sony bravia and works perfectly fine. Bravias adjust to any of those resolutions. I just plugged the HDMI and got signal with no problems. Try all inputs (video 1, video 2, etc) and dont forget to adjust the settings to HDMI on your PS3.
