"The PlayStation 3 console could see a price drop in production due to the fact that the blue-laser pick-up heads are becoming more prevalent and cheaper in price. According to a report in the Digitimes, Taiwan-based component and console makers are saying the production costs could drop as much as $100.00.

Whether or not this will translate in price drops for each of the consoles is unknown at this point."

It probably wont drop for consumers because of how much Sony is losing at the moment.

Sony gained a heck of a lot more than they lost, I'd say. With all the games and extra remotes, downloads, and their other investments (non-video game), they probably more than made up for what they lost in PS3 production.

I doubt it. You gotta remember, sony doesn't get $60/£50 when you buy a game. They might get $2 or so for a 3rd party and maybe $5 for a first party.

Sony will want to stop losing so much money on hardware sales before consumers get a price drop. The console isn't even a year old... the price drop simply isn't going to happen.

I suppose retailers could drop the price as well?

I mean, they have already cut it by £25.

Possibly... but it's all very complex and I don't think it will happen untill at least 2008.
