Sony involved in GTA4 delay?

"We think it is likely that the Rockstar team had difficulty in building an exceptionally complicated game for the PS3, and failed to recognize how far away from completion the game truly was until recently," Pachter said in a statement.

"We think it is also likely that Take-Two had a contractual commitment to Sony that it would not favor competitor Microsoft by launching the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV prior to launching the PS3 version, and believe that any delay of the PS3 version necessitated a delay of the Xbox 360 version," he added.

The analyst also criticized the timing of the delay being that the game was originally slated for release only 10 weeks from now. As reported yesterday, GTA4 is now expected in April 2008 at the earliest.

Pachter's opinions come at a time when several third-party developers, benchmark tests, and even Sony's own admittance that the PS3 is harder than the Xbox 360 when it comes to developing games given the former's propriety hardware.

Never heard so much bullshit in my life. I dont understand How people can blame Sony and their console for the delay, if anything its Rockstar north's fault. Its their problem if they are having difficulties developing for the cell engine not Sony's, how can they blame them for making a console with future technology its ridiculous in my eyes.

very good point....but i believe they are both at fault..sony not so much as on purpose but just because their system is harder to make games on but that is just because it is new technology...but rockstars fault because they are making the game....but delays happen and i am just happy to hear that it isn't going out on the box before the ps3

i got a call from gamespot telling me its postponed till march, i read april?. i agree with most of what u guys said, delays are good and bad, the good probably a better game the bad's the wait, in gta's case that's just ridiculous 6 months oh well

Well, just like most other games, release dates mean nothing these days, especially when they keep getting shifted back. I think a better idea would be if these companies stopped issuing release dates until the game has gone to the duplicators, not earlier.
As for blaming the delays on the PS3 being new technology, other companies can manage to do games for it and surely Rockstar have people trained in how to program for this console, don't they?

I really don't see why you guys are so obsessed with the 360 not getting good titles before the PS3. In my opinion, it doesn't really matter. Both systems are in dire need of some good games. I would say that the PS3 needs it more, but why are you hating on the 360? It's a good system, too. Although this is way off the topic, that is my opinion on the situation. I don't care which console it comes out on first, just so that it does come out on the PS3. Plus, you do know that the 360 is getting some games about a year after they come out on the PS3, right? (i.e. Haze)

My Opinion: they think its the PS3 fault?....think, it could be the Xbox360 there having problems with, the 360 cant handle awesome graphics like the ps3 can. look at oblivion, the xbox had troubles with it, but the ps3 easy handled it. All in all it could be ether, the ps3 is newer on the market and may take a little more time to get use to since the 360 has been out for like a year and a half. oviously thats not fair to judge the PS3 because its newer.

no one is dogging on the 360 in this thread...except the guy that posted after you but i don't own a 360 so why would i want to see the game that i am most anticipating come out on a system that i don't have...and then sitting there going shit i really want to play the game but i don't have that system....to me that would be worse
