yeah they are. they might as well, the 80GB version has replaced it all over the world and very soon in the uk. No point in having it anymore. the 80GB version is better value for money

I heard the 80 or 40 gb does not have PS2 playback function

Probably both but definitely the 40. Sony are planning to stop BC altogether at some point anyway. Doesn't bother me really, after playing COD 4 and R&C I just can't go back to PS2 games now.

they do have playback but insteed of putting in the hardware for it like they did in the 60gig, they just installed a ps2/ps emulater (software) which will allow playback with about 95% of ps2/ps games if i remember right.
