More PS3's on the way to Canada
Although PS3's are still hard to come by a Sony spokesperson has told Canadian consumers that they should soon have an easier time locating the console.
Quote:
"You'll probably see a lot more on the shelves in February than you will January - and probably even more in March than you did February," Matt Levitan, marketing and public relations manager for Sony Computer Entertainment Canada, said Monday. "We'll continue to improve the supply as we build to the fiscal year."
The PS3 was introduced Nov. 17, and Sony announced Monday that it had shipped more than one million units to North American retailers by the end of 2006.
"We made up for it in December," Levitan said.
Sony now says it is on target to ship six million units by March 31, the end of the fiscal year.
"That will be the fastest growth of an installed base of a new console on any PlayStation product," said Levitan. "Faster than PS1, PS2, PSP."
Sony has sold 111 million PlayStation 2s and more than 100 million original PlayStations.
Levitan says Sony could sell more PS3 units if it had them.
"It's probably still not where we want it to be," he said of supply. "Demand is still quite high. We haven't caught up with it yet. I'm not sure when we will. ... We could have sold more certainly had we had more. The demand is far exceeding supply."
