The 360 is crap hardware and one of the reasons I bought a PS3, but the Live service and exclusives are good and it still offers a good gaming experience while it works.
I've owned 3 of them and all of them had their issues. I ended up selling all of them over time, the last machine was an Elite and in the end I just didn't care much for the few games I had on it and decided to cash in on the Elite shortage.
I pretty much swapped out my 360 games for PS3 versions and walked away with really good money ebaying the Elite and HDDVD drive.
Fanboyism on either side is ridiculous, both machines have their strengths and weaknesses. It comes down to the exclusives and games you prefer. Basically if you don't care for Halo or Gears the PS3 is a good choice.
The PS3 is just a very solid reliable piece of hardware with the same great multi-platforms and a few decent exclusives. It also has the advantage of open hardware.
