Phil Harrison resigns from Sony Computer Entertainment
Sony's head software man leaves.

Announced via press release, Phil Harrison, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, will resign from his position at Sony at the end of the month. President and Group CEO of SCEI Kazuo Hirai will immediately assume all of Harrison's responsibilities.

Harrison, famous for his bullish attitude toward Sony's PlayStation products, joined Sony's then electronic publishing arm 1992, and later joined Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

Hirai said he was sad to see Harrison go, and that his contribution to SCE as "invaluable". “As one of the founding members of SCE, Phil played a key role in the development and growth of the PlayStation business and our industry.”

Phil's outgoing words were positive, stating "I am so proud of everything PlayStation has achieved and will continue to support its future in every way I can.”

There is no word as to where Harrison is heading, but there are rumours he has a new position lined up at a third party publisher.

It would be interesting to see the reason behind his departure. As he would have been earning a truck load of cash in that job.
