60 Gig Playstation 3 is the Best Model After All

So it has finally been announced and realized on G4-TV the other night, after all the various models of the PS3 released over this past year such as the 20gig - 40gig - 60gig - 80gig models the 60gig model which posesses the PS2's emotion engine chip and guarantee's the most backwards compatibility of all PS2 games and most PS1 games.
While the 20gig was discontinued indefinetly and the 40gig offers no backwards compatibility what so ever and the soon to be re-released 80gig which only offers partial backwards compatiblity through software emulation downloads, it therefore has been realized that Sony's first version and release of their 60gig PS3 which retailed for $599.99 is infact to this day the most sought after model which offers the best bang for your buck and i'm very thankful thats what i have.

I totally agree with that and you, and its such a shame that the Europe/PAL versions had the Emotion engine removed so its the same amount of BC as the USA 80gb. (and they don't sell the 80gb in Europe, only the 40gb nowadays)

The 60GB and 80GB are no longer offered here in the states either. The only model available is the 40GB.

The good thing about the 40GB is it's 65nm, runs cooler, consumes less power, has stronger Bluetooth, stronger WiFi, and it doesn't have breathing holes all over the case.

You can have 100% BC with a PS2 so the half assed PS3 BC (hardware or not) is a non-issue.

Hmm true but it would have been nice if i didn't have to blow the dust off the old black brick every time i wanted to have bash about on MGS2 or w/e.

I don't mind that much but what i don't get is that if the PS3 is so powerful (which it is) why cant they do full software emulation for the PS2. It wouldnt be very good but it would be something, i mean i had a working PS2 emulator on this PC a while back (and this thing is OLD and SLOW). Sorry im going off topic a bit here lol

They could do full software BC and Sony has admitted that it can easily be done, but they are not interested.

It would take resources that they would rather apply to looking ahead and coming up with new features.

I think the biggest loss for them is the ability to have PS2 downloads on the PSN store, where they could generate a lot of money.

I have always been a firm believer that software BC will be in a future update, but then again Sony is a very stubborn and arrogant company sometimes.

I may upgrade to one of those new bundles, most likely the GT5P one and ebay the 40GB.

40 GB's fine for me. It's not like I'll need 40, let alone 60. And I don't have PS1 or PS2 and I hadn't really intended to buy any games for either after getting my PS3. But I do agree with your point 60 GB is the best.
