Registering Device
I have used my PS3 to browse the internet. I can't seem to game online because my system is not registered. Why do I need to connect the PS3 to the router directly to register the device if I already have internet connection on the PS3?

Having your PS3 hooked up to the internet allows you to surf the internet. Having a psn id allows you to game online with your PS3. You must register with the playstation network to be able to play games online. You can access this in the xmb (cross menu bar)
