Hi All,
I have just gone through the process of installing the latest update for my PS3. I think its 2.17 or close to it. Anyway..went through the download, then it restarted the system so it could then install it. Somewhere through this my screen blanked out and ended up with the following message "error occured during update operation. contact tech support for assistnce (8002F14E)"
Have tried restarting the system to just get this message everytime I turn it on!! (even holding down the on/off for the second beep etc). Phoned tech support who told me my warranty is void as I bought the system off a friend who didnt want it(was still new in box) and as a result, it would cost me $350 for a tech guy to come and fix it! #$@ that!

Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.. HEEEEEELLLLLPPPPPP!!!!

call them again and play dumb, don't mention your friend say you got it off the official playstation website

^^^^Try what Sambo said, and if that doesn't work, try contacting Sony directly because I remember reading that Sony now offers Lifetime warranties on all PS3's that malfunction because of the software, such as your problem.

^^^Yup, you can't get a yes without asking. Really a lifetime warranty? That sounds a little to good to be true. How sure are you about that?

OK..heres the update.. i phoned Sony up again..and went through the whole story with a new voice. He took my details, sent me a document giving me free postage and shipped it to the tech centre yesterday. He hasnt mentioned anything about a fee for work thats to be done..so from this point on..I am considering it just that! FREE! Just means 3-4 weeks with no PS3.. Is better than losing 350 bucks tho. Cheers for any advice I've had! Will let those interested know if they tried to sting me with a service fee...

Someone posted a thread about it a few months back, I don't remember reading anything else about it, but then this guy said he just got his repaired for free so I guess it is true.
