Is it not recognising any discs at all, movies, games etc?
It's a pretty common problem, i had it a few months back. The only fix is to send it back to Sony. Is it still under warranty?

Give them a call, they'll sort it out for you. I had a replacement unit sent out within 48hours of calling them up.

Try this:
Phone Number
1-800-345-SONY (7669)
Hours of Operation
Monday through Saturday, 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Sunday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Pacific Time
Have your PS3 handy cos they'll probably ask you for the code that's on the back of the console.
Let us know how it turns out, good luck!

Gah unlucky, You could always try calling back and getting a different operator. Because it's such a widespread fault im sure i've heard reports that they've offered a replacement for out of warranty systems too.
