I'm considering getting a PS3 (primarily for Blu-Ray movies, though I'll likely do some gaming on it as well [though I'm mainly a PC gamer]), but I've heard that PS3s don't support 1080i. I have a 1080i TV, and according to what I've heard the playstation will scale down to 480p or something when being used with a 1080i TV. Is this true, or has Sony released a firmware update that would fix this and allow me to play games/watch movies at 1080i?

P.S.- Oh, I'm planning on getting the entry level 40GB PS3 for ~$400. Not sure if that would effect the answer...

the ps3 supports 1080i, 1080p, 720p and 480p so theres not problem about down scaling the movie, there would be no point to having a blu-ray player if it did.

On another note, your a pc gamer, got steam?
