Has the PS3 been worth the wait?

I'm doing work for university. It involves researching whether the PS3 delay has impacted from negatively on consumer perceptions of the console, and also Sony as a company. Therefore would be interested to chat more with anyone who has a view on this.

You are keen. Have you been told if you will get it on the launch date? How much is yours going to cost?

I take it kratoshommie that you must live in US or Japan. Did the delay their just make you want the console more? Are there not many games forthcoming for the console?

A big chunk of software is being released to coincide with the European launch..

To be fair, games wise the machine does nothing the 360 cant do at the moment, stupidly im loyal to the Sony brand & have (blind?) faith the console has great things to come.

i dont the delay has impacted on sales, more so the publicity..negative publicity stirred up by rival brands. In my opinion the Xbox360 was rushed to market, the design and function are shoddy to say the least (AA battery powered controllers, noisy operation, bulky [afterthought] power supply, no next gen optical drive, limited HDD space). Personally i would (and did) rather wait for a well designed machine that does everything without the need for buying 'add-ons'

which brings round the subject of price..if you spec'd a 360 upto a PS3 60Gb you'd find they come in at the same kind of money.

Finally..people are buying the PS3 soley as Blu-Ray player with no intention of using it to play games & its getting good reviews, see the link;

yeah, there seems to be a hype surrounding the console with the delay, increasing expectations. Does previous experience of PSone and PS2 make you confident in PS3 then?

i love my ps3 because mainly of the potential. i think of the great games, graphics and tools i will be able to play around with in later years but i want something to do in the here and now. In my mind sony has put out a good product but the software is just simply lacking at this point. And yes i do live in Canada and i got my ps3 a week or 2 after xmas in futureshop.

I think 'Joe Public' is a stupid arse who hasnt a clue whats going on an absorbs bullshit off anything & everything..strange thing social attitude.

The PS3 is breaking new ground, using new technology (the cell processor is s'posedly the 8th most powerful processor ever made..could that itself be a little bullshit absorption..lol) . Reports are its harder to develop software for than the 360 due to the new technology..all this give M'soft some good ammo to slate the system but in the long run Sony will win out, jus hope it aint too long of a run

what i say doesn't represent my own opinion, rather is based on what I've read to date from consumers and critics. I'm just putting a thought out there in the hope you respond, in order to gauge the real attitudes of Playstation users.

my comment was in no way meant for you, or to insult anyone..was more geared towards kids and blinkered fools that believe what there mate tells em, who read somat in the Daily Star (National Inquirer equiv')

my opinion, in brief, both 360 & PS3 are great systems that work, however i feel the PS3 is better designed & engineered and will slowly start to show what its made of as developers familiarize themselves with it.

Sony have lost ground to M'soft and it will take a fair old feat of marketing to get that share back

I think it was worth the wait for sure, I remember when I got it home. Opening that box with the PS3 in it was a awesome thing. As soon as I got it out of the box I hooked it up, and have been playing it a lot since :p, Resistance is a hell of game.

It appears then that though it has taken a while to get to market, the system definately delivers great quality. Therefore would the PS3 delay not put you off Sony products in the future?

I don't think many people understand how unbelievable playstation 3 is, for only 700 dollars you get to enjoy the finest piece of entertainment thats out there and you also get so much more. Stunning graphics, online play that's amazing and free! (unlike 360) and one of the biggest features...blu ray. it is not a waste of money and people who dont buy this are missing out big time.

That does seem a strong advantage that the online aspect is free. That must impact greatly when choosing between the 360 and ps3?
