Hey guys!

New to the site. My name is Dan.

So heres my situation.
For the past 2 or 3 months, I havent been able to play my PS3 for more then about 10 minutes.
On any game it will freeze. But it will play DVD's like it was nothing.

Now I called Sony and they said they would fix it because it is still under warranty. But then the girl I was talking to said to back up my data. So I said ok and tried to do it.
My friends external hard drive is not being read by the PS3. Plus I dont have a zip drive big enough. I deleted as much as I could and its down to over 8 Gigs.

What else can I do?
Should I really worry about backing up the data?

What If I send them a letter with the PS3 telling them I cant because it is broken?

I'm pretty sure that their is an option to backup the entire drive, or just game saves and user items like videos, music, pictures etc.

Best bet is just to backup the game saves, an anything else that you think that you can't re-download etc.

Don't worry about anything that you have purchased off the ps store, as you can re-download that again, without having to pay twice!.

As for the external drive not working, it needs to be FAT32 format , if i remember correctly, i don't thing that the PS3 supports NTFS drives, (someone correct me if im wrong).

So you may just need to make sure that the drive is the right file format for it to be detected.

So how would I go about just backing up the game saves?
Do I have to go to each individual one and select something?
Cause I dont see an option any where under the back up selection.

Go in to the game tab of the cross menu bar, choose "saved game utility", then choose your game save, and then use the triangle button to bring up the menu on the right hand side of the screen and choose copy.

Save it to the usb drive., then to restore it to a new system, go back in to the same area as above, and you will see your usb drive, select that and it will bring up any game saves that it finds on you drive, then just use the triangle button again to copy it back to the system.

Alright I did that last night and I got it all on a USB.

Now I just gotta find my receipt and I can send it in.......

Now when they repair it, am I basically getting a new PS3?
So will I lose all my online stuff?

If it's content from the ps store, once you setup your account details again, and go back to the ps store, you can re-download anything that you have payed for, without having to pay again.
