PS3 Messenger Like Tool for PC

I know there is a similar thing on psn web page, but its not practical, ie like MSN messenger just sits in system tray, but pops up a notification when a friend comes on line and then also tells me when they start to play a game, instead of me having to keep starting up my ps3 and checking ? I had a search arround but can see nothing ? Many thanks Chris. |

So I could see if a friend comes on line while I am on my PC, and see what they are playing, and then decide if I want to join them in a game, saves me having both on and flickin between the two

Get all your m8's to send you a message on MSN or Yahoo or AOL or skype or googletalk or icq or any other messenger before he starts to play.
Then you know when you can fire up your ps3 and join in. Making arrangements with people is a lot better than spying or stalking them. |

I don't think that there is any existing program for that purpose...
I sniffed my network to see how the PS3 accesses the friends list, and it's surprisingly not too secure. It's just posting short XML requests for each friend to getprof.us.np.community.playstation.net/basic_view/func/get_profile, authenticating as c7y-basic01 using HTTP digest. If you can crack the password (time to write some SPU assembly? ) then implementing the application should be trivial.Or you can always just fetch and parse us.playstation.com/MyAccount/PSNL/FriendList at fixed intervals, if you want to use the lazy, inefficient, and inelegant approach.
