Can I use a PS3 on this monitor???
Hello all, I've got a burning question that simply needs answers!
I want to plug in my PS3 into this monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...
Now, it says that the DVI port on this particular Samsung monitor is HDCP compliant, meaning that I should be able to get a full 1080p resolution with my PS3, correct? The monitor itself is 1920x1200. What will happen when I play a game that is only 720p or 1080i...will the downgraded image look bad?
Also, bear with me here, I plan on ONLY using the PS3, monitor, and speakers....that means NO computer. So, if I hook up the PS3 to the monitor through DVI, how will I get sound to my speakers/Sony Amplifier? Can I do this through S-Video? Meaning can I just connect the S-Video cables (well just the audio cables) from the monitor to the amplifier and get sound? Remember, I do not plan on using a computer...just PS3, monitor, and speakers/amplifier.
Please help me out here!

Your link is broken, I can't see the monitor you are trying to buy...
On 1920 x 1080 games, the monitor should be fine. If the monitor has an internal scaler, which it probably does, then the 720p games should run OK too. However, be aware that although the monitor is advertised as having 1920 x 1200 native resolution, that doesn't mean it will take in a 1080p signal, it should be able to handle 1080i no problem, but 1080p is the question, I really have to see which monitor it is to tell you the answer.
As far as audio goes, Neither DVI or S-Video carry audio signals. I am not sure if the PS3 will be able to output video / audio signals through both of its HDMI and AV outputs, my guess is it doesn't. However, it is probably still worth a shot, try to have your composite AV RCA cables (Red and White) plugged into your speakers while feeding the video through HDMI to DVI converter. If that doesn't work, then you will have to get a HDMI to DVI video and audio converter. I think Genfen makes a couple of good ones, but they will run you anywhere between $150 - 300 USD.

I think the Syncmaster will do 1080p, it does have an internal scaler and should be able to do whatever the PS3 needs. The monitor doesn't have audio out, and there is no reason for the monitor to have an audio out, since the audio data is fed from your Playstation. As I mentioned before, you have to get a separate set of speakers and try to feed your RCA cables to the audio source (ie. amp, receiver, or even a boombox with RCA inputs etc.). If that doesn't work, then you will have to get a HDMI to DVI video AND audio converter.
