HDTV or NO????

Ok so i'm getting a ps3 in a few days when i get my taxes...i don't have a hdtv. i know it won't be the ULTIMATE gaming experience, but it should still be pretty amazing though, right??

also if i bought it and a game would i be able to go home take it out of the box and start playing right away or do i need other accessories?? like cables or something?

ok crossfade let me tell you that its not going to be amazing without an hdtv, infact it will only be slightly better then ps2's graphics, so you should probaly start saving up for a new hdtv because after all its what the ps3 is intended for...and for your next question, you cant just put in a game and start playing...after you hook up all your cables (if your using a regular sdtv then it should be simple and easy to figure out) turn it on and go through the setup stages then you should go to your settings and make sure your configured to an SD resolution...if you have a router near by or you have the 60gb (the wireless router should be close anyway) then do all your online setup..account, network settings etc and then you should be good to go....but i really advise getting an hdtv cause like i've said before its just ps2 with different games

yeah i know its not going to be all hd quallity but it will still be better than the ps2...i just want to make sure that if i buy it and a game i won't need to buy like a bunch of other stuff to start gaming.
like does it come with everything you need besides the game? i know i will have to set it up thats a given

It will still be amazing without HDTV. With your regular TV, the PS3 generates a 480 interlaced signal through its analog AV output, and most of the people will simply discard that as a 480i signal and tell you there will be very little graphical improvement. However, that is completely wrong since the quality of a video output also depends on the source quality, and in the case of the PS3, the game source are at least 720p. So in other words, beside the fact that the image signal to a SDTV is interlaced, you are simply shrinking a 1280 x 720 picture to 640 x 480 size, and anyone with some AV knowledge will tell you that when shrinking the size of a picture, you don't necessarily lose quality. Of course, the image may not be as sharp as 1080i or 1080p, and the screen will have the "flicker" effect due to the interlacing of the signal, and depends on the contrast ratio of the TV, you may also lose some finer details. However, overall, the graphics should still look pretty amazing regardless.

But if you can get your hands on a HDTV, then you should do it. You maybe able to get some older models for cheap.

It looks amazing even if it isnt in HD. I had it not in HD for a few weeks and still was amazed. HD just brings up the detail I dont see much difference myself though.....

Thanks Hondan and Crash you've put my mind at ease a bit. I am getting a PS3 on launch but I don't have a HDTV and can't afford one for a while so it's good to hear some sense from people who know what they're talking about

I am also HDTV-less

I am leaving college soon though and getting a job, once I get a steady income I will definitely be getting a HDTV. The 360 on my dads HDTV looks absolutely stunning. Can't wait to get my Sony Bravia

k obviously none of you guys know what your talking about, the ps3 is made for high definition NOT standard....HIGH ok and your wasting your money if you dont own an hdtv...lets see, blu ray is a key feature correct? o but wait if you dont have an hdtv then whats the point of putting in a blu ray movie?? the only reason why someone wouldn't agree with me (scootah this is for you) is because you wont be able to get it which makes you vulnerable to agree with everyone and keep your mind at ease....

I wonder how many times one person can be wrong, but Jeter16 you've definitely got it wrong yet again. If I agreed with everyone why am I not agreeing with you now? Blu-ray may be a key feature for some, but not for me. Until there's a truly good selection of movies available on blu-ray I'll stick to good old dvd thank you very much. Also just because someone doesn't have a HDTV does this mean that they don't have the right to play PS3 games? It's just ridiculous to say that you should only buy a PS3 if you've got a HDTV. If this is the case then why does the PS3 ship with standard cables and not HDMI, and why does it have connectors for SDTV's? You, my friend (or not) are yet again talking out of your anus I'm sorry to say.

What he said

But, I agree, why do I not have the right to own a PS3 if I am without a HDTV? You're logic fails TBH.

ok first now i really know your an idiot and second you really dont know what your saying. i didnt say that people dont have the "right" to play ps3 games, im saying that the ps3 is meant for HD and people buy the playstation to experience something "nex gen" (hense the term nex gen because its the next generation of gaming...not ps2 gaming) and also, you say that theres not a good collection of blu ray movies?? it just came out and theres a great collection and 8/10 movies being realeased on dvd are on blu ray or hd dvd so your wrong on that....and ofcourse sony isnt going to put hdmi cables in the ps3 box, if they did that then that would specify that people with sdtv's cant buy it and if they did that then they would lose lots of money......................now do you not understand this or are you a fukin retard who cant afford an hdtv??

That last sentence was rather harsh, mummy and daddy don't go out and buy us pretty new HDTV's. You're lucky, and spoilt if you go around calling people ****ing retard's because they can't afford expensive TV's. Get a life, jeeez.

The reason I thought you where young, is because you act like a total twat on here. You really do come across as being an immature, spoilt, little brat.

I have wasted enough time of you now, so get ****ed.

Scoota dont listen to Jeter. Yes PS3 was made for HD, but it looks great on SDTV as well. As long as you get HD sometime the
