playing online

Hi there, i am needing help and advice if anyone can give me some. I bought my PS3 from Hong Kong and took it back to UK. I have it all working but playing online is a problem. When i went to set up the online gaming it requires an address in the USA, Canada, Hong Kong or Japan. But being in the UK i havnt got one, can i get round this as it wont accept a uk address. Also do you have to pay to play people from around the world as i thought it was free as i know the xbox360 has a minthly subscription. Also i dont have any friends to play against as it isnt released in UK yet, can anybody let me be their friend please. I know sounds sad, i do have friends just not on the PS3

You can just set up a temporary address in North America. Just use mapquest.com or something for a quick address. It's not like Sony's going to send you anything. You can change your address after the Eurolaunch.

^PS3 will be online straight out of the box.

Ash, I think you are reffering to Playstation Home? Part of Sony's new online service.

That will not be available until September

PS Network has been up since the Japanese launch back in November, 2006. You just need to connect your PS3 to the internet, update your PS3, register a PSN account and you're ready to go. No fees.

^The only thing I'm worried about is that I dont know the speed of my Internet.

I mean, I have broadband...and pages load quickly etc.

I have an ADSL connection, so my PS3 should be able to connect, yes?

(My PS2 connected fine a while ago, but I tried a couple days ago and it said 'DNS error')

It should work since you have broadband. If you really want to know how fast your connection is, there are various bandwidth testers available online that will calculate how long it takes you to download a file and use that to compare against a list of common ISP performances. As for the PS2 connection thing, I don't know since I only started going online with PS2 titles on my PS3 and only rarely.

I don't think you have to have anybody in your friends list to play online. It all really depends on the game too. Typically, you can choose to play a ranked game where players with similar level of skills will be pitted against you, or you can just go out and play a custom game, where you can select the game you want to join...
