Anyone else get sick of people saying that Resistance isn't as good as Gears of War?

How can games of 2 different genres be compared against each other? Gears is a third person while Resistance is first person. Also, when people say the graphics aren't all that good on Resistance, it's true that they're nothing spectacluar but they are damn good for a launch title. Ok so it's hardly a unique game but its story is very well executed and it does have some amazing set pieces. In any case I don't remember any games on the 360's launch looking graphically as good as this.

Also just to balance the argument. I do think the graphics in gears are fantastic this cannot be denied, definitely some of the best I've seen in any game, but if it wasn't for the snazzy graphics it would just be your average run of the mill third person action game.

Judge each game on its own merits but to compare them is just wrong.

i agree completley. dont forget they had a whole year after launch to make gears. and it also depends on wut type of game u want to play, resistance is much more fast paced while gears is slightly slower. also the online for resistance is 10 times better. i have a friend wo has a 360 and we argue about it alot, and he is like well playing with 40 people sucks cus u die to fast. then he played it and loved it. u also dont have to pay. and the gears online is 3 different versions of 4 on 4.

Resistance got me hooked more than GOW did. Resistance has good graphics but not as good as GOW. GOW is just eye candy for 360 owners, and nothing more. Resistance is a hardcore FPS packed to the brim with brilliance and has a better story if you ask me. GOW was good but it was too slow.

FoM > GoW

i totally agree with those statments. stuff like 40 players online and advanced match making and weapon innovation is much more valuable to me then snazzy graphics. and the think about comparing a 3rd person shooter and a first person shooter, its like comparing viva piniata and motorstorm, or halo and oblivion. it doesnt work.

Its a neverending argument, but honestly i'm glad they're being compared. RFOM was a lot of peoples first game and GOW (dont like this abbrv. imo theres only 1 GOW and thats God of War) is the 360's best game.

Also doesnt it take like 5hrs to complete GOW. One of the things that surprised me about RFOM is that it took ages to complete, and i still missed a bunch of skill points and intel docs. Apart from lasting appeal i do think GOW is a better gamebut in a years time i'm sure the PS3 will have something better - MGS4!!!!!!!!!!

All good points. I mainly posted this thread for those people that criticised Resistance's graphics, they fail to realise that the 360 didn't have games with the graphical flair of Resistance on its launch, in fact, the majority of games were very similar visually to the Xbox 1 but even now the majority of PS3 games are way ahead of the PS2. It's taken about a year for the graphical potential of the 360 to be realised and yet Resistance is a launch title and is almost up there with the best the 360 has to offer, which, IMO goes a long way to showing what kind of potential the PS3 has for us in the future

Also I know of someone that finished Gears in about 4 hours. I mean, 4 hours?!?!?!?!?! I'd begrudge EVER spending in the region of £45 for a game that can be finished in such a short time regardless of the graphics, it just doesn't warrant so much, where's the value for money there?

Hopefully this will please Scoota but I'm about to slate what many gamers consider to be the "holy grail" of the 360 and not defend it.

Granted, I've only played the first level of Gears but I thought it was shit and if the first level, the level that should captivate you and amaze you and make you want to keep playing is shit, then I expect the rest of the game is too. Resistance on the other hand had me hooked from the beginning. The cutscenes are executed perfectly, the storyline kept me playing even when things got really really hard and I wanted to quit for the day... and best of all...it was ****ing huge. Resistance, just like motorstorm shows how much potential the PS3 has. Release games are barely games...more just showcases that say "hey...look what our system can do!" and Resistance has shown me that (aside from Halo 3 *drooooooool*), I will most likely purchase most FPS games for PS3.

To right. I remember my first game for the PS2.....X-Squad. one of, and probably still, the worst games i ever played. after playing it for about 2 mins i actually thought the PS2 was sh!t, and now we have FFXIII, MGS3, GOW II (the real GOW). bring on the next 5 years!!!

I hope so. I love Killzone on my PS2 and PSP and I have high expectations for the PS3 version

Gears had a whole year extra to be developed. Resistance is a "showcase" release game.

I'm not a big fan of first person shooters but Resistance changed my opinion. it is one of the best games i have ever played. can't wait for the sequel.
