Final Fantasy - Info. for someone new to the series.
I'm a new PS3 owner, and relatively new to Playstation in general. I own a PS2 but used it mostly just to play Vice Cities back in the day. I was mostly an original xbox user not 360. I have been out of the gaming loop for awhile. I own a Wii as well.
Anyhow, I'm interested in checking out Final Fantasy because it has such a high rep.
I don't know anything about the game except that its an RPG. I've never played it.
A lot of gamers are surprised that I've never played the games before, so I want to see what the fuss is about, and what I've been missing.
Anyways, what should I know about the games, what are the best ones to play, should I just wait for one to come out for the PS3?
These games probably slipped under my radar cause I tend to like Action and FPS games. I love MGS games too. Stuff with a good story line.

final fantasy is legendary. probably the best rpg i've ever played. the problem with playing these games now is that they are sooo complicated. it wouldn't be wise to buy the latest one coz you would be like wtf!!! what the hell do i do. if you wanna get into final fantasy i suggest you start from the beginning and play the first one on the ps1. it will work fine on the ps3. i started off on the 10th final fantasy and loved it. i only understood what to do coz i had a friend who knew all about final fantasy and guided me. if you have a final fantasy fan friend then i suggest you start off with the 10th one and work your way up. your friend should help you with it if hes into final fantasy

The Final Fantasy series are awesome games. Back in the day of the PS1 it took me a total of about 60 hours playing time to complete it. It is so vast and there is lots to do.
When FF13 hits the PS3, it is, I hope, going to be unbelievable in terms of gameplay and graphics. I suspect it will have a fresh learning curve for those, like yourself, who have never picked up a copy of the previous editions.
Trust me when I say, you have made a wise purchase in the PS3 and you wont be dissapointed in FF13. It will kick ass.

Thanks for the replys.
Are the games really that deep though? I do have a Wii, and if I keep it, I'm very much considering getting Crystal Bearers when it comes out. I'm just wondering since it's going to be on the Wii..is it going to be quite the lightweight version or is it going to be quite faithful to the series? Is it better just to stick with the playstation versions maybe?
I saw quite a few used versions of Final Fantasy 12 I believe. How is that one?

final fantasy 12 is one of the best ffs around. i wouldn't really recommend that one to you though coz ur new to the series. i don't know about the wii version but as the actual series is exclusive to playstation you're better getting the ps version. ones that come out on other consoles are just spin offs and so would probably be shit

Alright, I see your point.
I do have another question though. Did FF start on PS1 or did it start on PC? Cause I was somehow under the impression it was PC game, or am I confusing it with something else?

First off no FF started on the NES but has been and exclusive sense the PS1. It was actually the last game they were going to make before going out of business but it was such a huge hit that they grew into this huge company it is today.
I have never played FF10 but FF10-2 was crap stay away from that. FF12 was grate I loved it. Grate story behind it instead of the teenage boy goes out and saves the world. I loved the real time battles and that there is no more random battle encounters. It was the first FF game that I beat.
If you don’t mind figuring things out a little (license board sucked) then I would get Final Fantasy 12. One of my favorite PS2 games.

ok first all the games are their own story and playing one doesn't really have any relivence on another. some of the older games are dated being from playstation one if you don't mind bad graphics and reading all the dialogue i suggest you start with seven. 8 is ok i relly like it but not the best representtation of FF. then i would say if not seven 9 it is great. however if you are gunna have trouble with the graphics and stuff get 10, and then by the time you master and beat that amazing game 13 may be out.

As far as RPG's go I think that Oblivion is the best to date. Obviously I can't comment on FF XIII since it's nowhere near completion yet. For me the FF series took a nose dive after FF IX.

I quite agree. Graphically it's not much compared to modern games but it's still got a great story and it can still be quite challenging. Best of the whole series.

well if you still have a super i highly suggest ff3. if not make it ff7 (if you find a copy) or ff8. as for ps2 ffX is ok but stay away from ffX2. as for ff12 the story is great but i didn't care for much else in it. anyways pretty much pick up anyone of them.

I saw ff7 and ff12 at blockbuster. I think I may go rent at least one of them next time I go...instead of actually buying to see if I like them.

I agree......my favorite of the whole series......I think they might be working on a ff7 remake......I sure hope that rumor will be true.....I think that ff started to go downhill......I just didnt like the orbs and crap...equip that on that weapon or a combo of orbs, or whatever......not sure which ff game that was, but I haven't touched them scince.
I'm excited for ff13.....but time will tell...
