Need some opinions on Oblivion.
I"m really considering getting Oblivion. I have found a bunch of used copies at a particular EB games, but passed on the purchase for now.
I did own Elder Scrolls for the original xBox. Morrowind I think. I thought it was alright, but it was kinda slow for me. A lot of walking, almost as much walking as you would do in real life, which was a bit a of a turn off, and I found the game very frustrating especially the fighting. Needless to say I never got very far in it and lost interest fast. These are the reasons why i'm holding out on buying Oblivion.
I'm just wondering if that was my experience with Morrowind...it'll most likely be my experience with Oblivion? Is it just a better looking version of the same basically? Is Oblivion much much better than Morrowind?
What's your take or advice for me? Maybe stick to action and FPS games? hahaha No seriously. I do love games like Zelda, so RPG's are not an issue. I just want to play some kick ass games.

hahaha
So does this mean I could be potentially playing this game for a very long time if I buy it...therefore it would be a worthwhile purchase...or does that mean the pace is just incredibly that slow?

I personally loved Morrowind, never did a better RPG come out for it's time. As for Oblivion, I played it on PC and it's really not as good without the mods.

first time elderscolls player and i like oblivion a lot...there is fast travel so as long as you've been there before you can fast travel there or if you want to go somewhere you havn't been then fast travel to the closest spot and walk the rest or buy a horse because your horse fast travels with you...as for gameplay...the fighting is cool (you can switch from first person to 3rd person)....and there is tons to do....so you will be playing it for a while...the only thing i find annoying is all the oblivion gates you have to close...but the good part about that is all the oblivion gates are different maps...and puzzels (sort of on the puzzels).

Thanks for the replies!
Well, after some deliberation I decided to pick it. I found an awesome deal. I found a brand new unopened copy for $40 CAN at a flea market. EBgames are still selling the used copies at $59.99. I know...I purchesed one. Good thing I didn't open it cause I returned it and got my money back.
I also picked up Shadow of the Colossus. It looks like a good game. While waiting for the kick ass PS3 exclusives I'm getting up to speed with some PS2 games I missed. I didn't realize PS2 games were so kick ass.

you dont have to personally close all the oblivion gates if you dont want to. Just complete the main quest that closes all the gates, but once you do that they are closed and you cant get any of the stuff in the gates if you didnt close it before.......I recomend doing everything you can before completing the main quest.....

yeah thats what i'm doing but even then there is the quest where you have to get support for bruma and you have to go to each town and close the oblivion gate outside...that got a little annoying but to counter all that i would just do one of the many other quests and then go back to that help for bruma one

yep.....thats whats great about this game.......do whatever you want when you want....mostly.....i've done the mages quests first so I can enchant my shit.....then I finished the fighters guild quests......then the arena which was way too easy, now just got my weekly battles to do.
Working on the theives guild and assassans quests, or dark brotherhood which ever you choose......
I have a buddy that plays it on the pc, and it seems to be easier on the pc. He will have the same crap as me and kill shit in one hit which I have to work a little more to kill.....also I noticed that when he is in caves or under water it stills looks as if it is day....you can see everything no problem....maybe its his shading settings i dunno, but I thought that was weird.....
But I love this game......the first person view gets to annoy me at times, but beyond that....its a pretty solid game with a long life.......
I hope they bring Shivering Isles expansion pack to the PSN store or something.....

This game is really good. It's addicting. Since I bought the PS3 I bought a bunch of classic PS2 titles and a few other PS3 titles. I'm seriously wondering if I'm even going to get to them now...hahaha

I just started a new character who mainly uses magic and spells, hes lvl 5 and i can kill people in the arena before they come out of the gates or just summon a scamp and let him kill it....Never thought magic would be so powerful and cool!

That sounds pretty cool. My character is a Nord. I'm trying to make him well balanced at everything.
On a side not there are a few things about this game that I'm not pleased about. I find the graphics not that great at all. It looks like something that could be pulled off on the original xbox.
There is A LOT of slow down and chugging in this game. A lot more than I was expecting actually. Not only that but what's with things constantly popping up and seemingly to grow in the distance as well as backgrounds seeming to shift around sometimes? Constant environment loading sucks too.
Those aspects do hurt the game a lot in my eyes...it really seems last gen. Playing this on the PS3 kinda makes me lose faith in its power slightly, but I do realize those are more programming issues than anything else. Still they could of made this game A LOT better in those respects with a little more time put into it.
However it is a good game. The addiction primarily lies in leveling up your character. The flow is nice, and the ability to do what you want when you want is real nice too.
