Assassins Creed temporary crash fix
Hey, so apparently the PS3 version of assassins creed crashes a lot. The cause? Firmware 2.0. Turn off the news ticker thing and that should stop it from crashing:

OK, I am new so I can't start a new thread yet, but I have an unusual AC problem:
I just bought Assassin's Creed for the PS3. I have the 80GB PS3 and when I put the game in, it fires up no problem. I get to the white screen that says it will save things automatically to my HDD. I hit enter. It immediately goes to a page that says "Game data is corrupt. Exit the game and restart after deleting Assassin's Creed game data." I have never even played the game or gotten past this into the menu.
I have tried deleting the data but a new file is created every time I try to turn the game on and I constantly get this message. I have FW version 2.01 (just upgraded when I bought this game). I tried turning off the message ticker (PS news), I have logged out of PSNetwork. I have tried multiple other games and all games work fine except this disk. I just bought it and it is totally clean and not scratched at all.
What can I do? I just want to get past this error and into the game but every time I try it tells me that my game data is corrupt. How can it be corrupt if I haven't even played it yet???
When I look at the Save Date Information, it shows a subtitle of "Memory Block 0" which is odd since all of my other games show a subtitle of "Save game". Could this have something to do with it? The PS3 automatically creates this game save as soon as I select the disk from the man menu, so is it improperly naming the save and thus cannot read it? i'm stumped. anyone else have this problem? suggestions?
Please help me out as I want to play this over my holiday break...

hey i can only assume that there is a problem with your disk, even though it is unharmed or even untouched... try trading it for a new one maybe, thats all i can really suggest..
and the other thing i can say is that "Memory Block 0" is a part of the actual game, because assassins creed is about the memory of a guy and you go through the journey as different memories.. e.g. "Memory block 1" and "memory block 3", so this is just a way to show how far you are into the game.. so it is another way to write "game save" basically.. so no, that is not a problem..

thanks for the extra info. i'll try to return it but walmart is not usually very cool when it comes to open items.... even exchanges.
in the meantime, any other suggestions anyone?

ok, i just exchanged it at walmart and i got the EXACT same error. now i know it isn't the disc. could this have anything to do with the fact that the disc was in the PS3 when I did my update to 2.01? I was coming from something like 1.93 (i hadn't been on in a while).
anyone have any other suggestions??? again- all other games work, but assassin's creed will not (well, the 3 other games i own all work- and they are all launch titles)
i emailed ubisoft but it will be a few days til i hear from them. any help is greatly appreciated...

THAT WORKED!!! thanks for the thought. that was going to be my last resort, but i just needed someone to push me over the edge. i was able to save all my games too, so all is good. i just now got into the main menu of the game, so we'll se if the problem returns when i try to log back in later. Thanks all for the help.
