What Kind of Level Will You Make in LBP?

The whole "build your own level" think in LittleBig Planet is something I'm really looking forward to; it seems like kind of a "Sims-meets-my-childhood-game-programming-fantasies" sort of idea. I really want to try and recreate the original Super Mario Bros. in LBP, but I'm sure there's a lot of people who are going to do that, so I think I might try and make a Bubble Bobble-inspired level.

Anyone else?

I, like you, and everyone else, will try making my own SMB level. Also, I'd make a Basketball level, where you have to use a catapult to launch a ball or maybe a sackboy into a faraway bucket. Maybe a pacman level too that would be kind of cool.

But honestly, I'm not spending too much time making levels, b/c I already know that there's so many of those hard core programmers that are 100x better/more creative than me, and they'll have amazing levels out within a week of LBP's release.

The same way games like Evolves and Tower Defense were created by users on Warcraft and Starcraft, and some kids made the original Team Fortress and Counterstrike games as nothing but free mods for Halflife, there's always some crazy programmers out there and they're the ones who are gonna make the insane LBP levels.

I like that idea for a "Catapult Basketball" level; that sounds pretty fun, especially if you get to launch Sackboy.

I saw in the new trailer that you can use jetpacks now - I wonder what kind of flight options you can get with those? It might be kind of fun to try and do some sort of aerial obstacle course, like Pilotwings.

I'd also love to try and create a multiplayer Sackboy version of Gauntlet - that would be great!

I can see everyone making copies of other games like Super Mario, Sonic and Pacman LOL

No one is original. IMO this game will get old soon. I don't have the patience or imagination to create my own levels, let alone "share" them.

Let's hope this doesn't turn out like Haze. All the hype for nothing...

First off nice thread. The problem for me is that I do not know the entire list of the objects that are at hand, I was planning on making a level that (1) resembles an old mansion OR (2) is the center of an old European(-style) city (Perhaps City 17).

If you think that, go play Starcraft online. Or any other game that has a level creator that gives you every option. Starcraft's level creator was so in depth that the game developers could create the campaign levels using it, it had all the scripts and stuff. Now if you go online, you'll see all these special games other designers have made, like LOTR/WW2 themed matches (it's an RTS game if you didn't know), Evolves, TOWER DEFENSE, etc.

Tower defense is a great example of exactly where I'm expecting LBP's development to go in the long run. For the first 6 months, sure, there will be lots of people trying to make the exact same kinds of levels - SMB rip-offs and such. But unlike almost any other console game out there, I think that LBP has the opportunity to become something like StarCraft, where people use the tools of the game to create something entirely different than what the designers originally intended. Just because LBP is a platformer at heart - does that mean that ALL the levels and games people create have to be platformers? People have already been using LBP to create mini-games & "message" videos (like the one on YouTube where the "level" is all about getting attacked by the 360's "Red Rings of Death") - and the game isn't even out of BETA yet! Could people end up creating stuff with LBP like Tower defense, where it's not the original idea, but incredibly addictive nonetheless. I'm certainly thinking so.

^^^^Exactly!! You know what I'm talking about. People will make catapult battles, sports (somehow), and of course those super frustrating levels that you have to play 100x until you can beat.

EDIT :: Just read this article about these two levels some guy made called Heist and Heist II.

http://arstechnica.com/journals/thum...ed-ring-to-ps3

Scroll down to Ben's Thoughts.

Basically it says that the levels are like a legit bank robbery game, not a platformer with some vague bank robbery references. The creator even implemented a system so that if you die while in the police's custody, the respawn point is moved to a different area, presumably a "jail" so you can't just keep respawning when you get caught.

Just goes to show that not only will we have a vast amount of creative platforming levels to play, but there will be tons of variants that don't even have to do with collecting coins and jumping around.

I think "Heist" is just the first in what will become a common occurrance - people using levels to tell a story. It could even be something ongoing, like the PS3 equivalent of a comic book, with a new "chapter" coming out every month.

As for the sports games, I'd love to see someone design a really good 2-on-2 basketball game. You've got the players, and the ability to grab stuff - seems like it could be done, no?

^^^^Yeah, football(european and american) would be sick too, maybe even bowling or golf.

Damn I want this game so bad now lol. I already preordered so it should be at my mailbox the day it releases since I got expedited shipping, but that's STILL another 3 weeks.
