According to UK Playstation magazine, EA plan on revealing the details of a new franchise just after the Tokyo Games Show. The announcement will be revealed on the 28th September just four days after TGS.

Little is known about the franchise other than EA say that it will be "going head-to-head with one of the biggest franchises in gaming history".

More details will be published in the October 26th issue of PSM3

Franchise deals are proving very popular for the major Console manufacturers. It seems to be a way for the likes of Sony to keep control of games, and also bring in some more income for themselves.

Franchises may be good for the company, but is it good news for us. Like you say it means a lot more control over pricing and I don't know about anyone else but I struggle now to keep up to date with consoles and the games I generally need to buy second hand

A franchise is basically a closed shop - premium pricing, and a larger cost base before the game is even in the development stage.

By making the cost base higher, everyone knows that the price of games will remain high. This is why eBay has a boom time buying and selling second hand console games.

Must admit I always buy second hand, although I do use the same reputable, reliable source at our local shopping centre. The price never seems to have fallen for new games and for most we just cannot afford to buy them regularily at those kind of prices.
