Grand Theft Auto Styled Games

I'm a huge fan of the GTA series, and am looking for more games that have that style of game play.
I have done all of the driver series of games, as well as the saints row games. I'm going to pick up the wheelman next figure, that'll give a bit of open ended game play, but I know it's a weak substitute.
I was so excited t see the release of the parallel story line for gta4, but that was short lived. can't believe they are only running it on xbox, so pissed. almost makes me want an xbox for that reason alone.

I would appreciate any game advice you could offer for this style of game play, and maybe the name of that style gaming to aid in my search.

and don't say assassin's creed, played it, waiting for the 2nd installment

Have you tried Far Cry 2? The campaign is open world (sandbox) gameplay and Infamous will be open world as-well.

InFamous would be my #1 recommendation - it comes out on May 26th (and a free demo will be available on the PSN on May 21st). Looks like one of the best PS3 titles of the year, and it's a "sandbox" game much like GTA - it's a lot like a mix between GTA IV and Uncharted.

there is a new Rockstar game comming out soon, i don't know when, called Red Dead Redemption. this is a basically a GTA western.
