Picked up NBA Street and Def Jam last night
I picked up NBA Street: Homecourt and Def Jam: Icons last night, and both games are absolutely great. I played a few games of homecourt at first, but then switched to Icons, and played it the whole night.
I have always been a Def Jams series fan, and the game certainly stayed true to its roots. The graphics engine used in Def Jams was the same one EA used in Fight Night: Round 3, so needless to say, the game looks nothing short of amazing. In addition to the beautifully modeled characters, the near photo realistic stages also features tons of destructible environments that creates hazards to beats of the music. The game play mechanics is somewhat of a mix between Fight Night Round 3 and previous Def Jam games, the face buttons allow the player to execute high and low attacks, while the right analog stick allows the player to pull off more advanced directional attacks. An interesting element of the game play is the DJ element, which can be activated by holding down and L2 button and rotating the left or right analog stick, this technique allows the users to somewhat control the music and unleash environmental hazards upon their opponents as well as boosting the player's status, this method can generate some pretty good looking combos during a fight. The game have tons of modes to dig through, including a F.A.C.E mode which will allow you to create your own "suspect". I spent most of my time playing through the Build your Label mode, which is the story mode of the game, and surprisingly, compared to the previous stories of Def Jam games, the story was rather intriguing and filled with twists and turns this time around. Overall, I love how Def Jam: Icons turned out and I would recommend it to all people who enjoy a good fighting game.
I will spend some time with NBA Street: Homecourt tonight, and provide a personal review tomorrow.
