Having trouble with H500 Bluetooth headset

I just purchased a Motorola H500 headset for PS3 - I have read online in multiple places that they work well with the PS# but i can't get it to work. I am using it with Madden - when i do get the headset to appear next to my name the sound quality is poor and comes out of the PS3, not the headset. i have registered the device and set it up under Audio Settings - any help would be appreciated. Thx
