PS3 CPU and Monitor

I have my PS3 hooked up to my monitor via a hdmi to dvi-d cable and my computer is also hooked up to the monitor via the dvi-d port. So I am always having to switch back and forth for what I want to use. Anyway, I saw some dvi-d splitters that I can buy (link below) and thought that be enough, but then I thought how would the monitor know which one to choose if both my PS3 and monitor are on. Unless my monitor would prompt me in some way (its a dell ultrasharp 2407wfp), but I am not getting my hopes up high.
I am thinking that I might have to just go get a KVM switch, but those are kind of expensive.

Just seeing if anyone knows anything different or that can offer any other suggestions. If anyone got questions on how I hooked my monitor to the PS3 I can answer those too and give links to where I bought the wires.

It'll work in one of three ways:

1) It wont work. You'll get shitty overlapping and it will suck ass
2) One socket will be primary and the other secondary. Don't expect it to label which one though. If its this then put the PS3 in primary and the PC in secondary. That way you can leave your pc running as you play PS3 games without any interference.
3) If you have your pc on then you turn on your PS3 your ps3 will show up until you turn the PS3 off. If you have your ps3 on and you turn your pc on the pc will show up until you turn it off.

Thanks for the response Callmege. You did post some interesting possibilities and I am hoping out of them that number 3 is the case. I got a feeling though that #1 is what will happen. I really wish that this wire was sold in a store this way I can just test it out and if don't work then return it, but noooo every store I have been to looks at me like I have multiple heads on my shoulder and have 0 idea to what I am talking about.

In any case, I emailed the cable guys that I just noticed in the link will keep everyone posted when I get a response.

Your best best is a KVM switch or a digital signal amplifier...

Alright so I figure I just update this if anyone cared.

The email I sent to the company gave me back a half-a$$ response obviously didn't read what I wrote, he recommended a switch but it was definitely not the right one. In any case the switch is the best way to go, because I did find the cable on ebay for pretty cheap so I figure I would try it. So plugging both in at the same time is a no go, no signal whatsoever. However, I don't look at it like I just wasted money (sigh), but it does make it easier to switch out the cables at the base rather then having to go behind the monitor every single time for when I want to switch. I still am not going to get a switch because this is only temp solution until I get the Bravia tv. That pretty much why I wanted to go the cheapest route for now.

Thanks for your suggestions though guys.
