Like Siege said, you will have to use the external media... unless if you have Linux installed.

So There is no way of transfering files over a wireless network via a router using the Playstations own OS?

There are some homebrew software available on the web that may allow you to do this, similar to TVersity for the 360. However, I wouldn't recommend using these software packages, since they may cause problems...

tc47 - think of installing a piece of hardware on a PC without the relevant drivers, that's the kind of errors you could expect to encounter (plus ruining the PS3 OS at the same time)

Yes I know it's software being installed and not hardware, but as it's not written by Sony for their OS there will always be compatibility issues and are you going to risk your PS3 with shady software?

If you want a flash disk, let me know I run an IT distribution company and can supply them for under £10 (1GB) or under £20 (2GB) including delivery. [Admin feel free to remove that line if advertising isn't permitted] This is a far safer alternative!

Rumour is Sony will be issuing a firmware update in the future to allow file sharing with a PC, but this isn't confirmed.
