HDMI or Optical Cable for PS3
hi guys, i am about to invest in a Sony HDMI AV Receiver and a 5.1 surround sound system to compliment my plasma screen and (hopefully) delivered PS3 on Friday, as i will hook up my PS via HDMI to the receiver the rather chipper salesman from Sony assures me a digital optical lead is not necessary as full digital sound will come throgh the HDMI lead im not so sure does anyone else have a similar set up and be able to help/advise me???

hi hondan good question i have a pioneer 43" plasma which does support an optical lead however now i am really confused as i thought the optical lead would go into the amp anyway appreciate your help

Ashv8, HDMI do carry both video and audio signals, so if you are feeding your PS3 into your receiver via HDMI then you should not need optical.
